Lovely, small, private airpark community consisting of hangars and hangar-home combinations on taxiways surrounding a centralized grass-over-asphalt runway. The airfield was originally constructed as a reliever runway for Randolph Air Force Base where many of their T'6 aircraft pilots trained and earned flight hours. RAFB later donated Zuehl airfield to the Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. TLC recognized they lacked an aviation program and sold it to an individual who, in turn, subdivided the property into lots with the runway and taxiways being later turned over to the newly formed HOA. My husband and I bought a hangar along the center of the north side of the taxiway/runway on Vagabond Drive. To add to its quaint history, in 1975, Walt Disney produced a number of aviation scenes at Zuehl airfield for their movie, "The Great Waldo Pepper," starring Robert Redford. My husband bought a 1961 Cessna 172 airplane so he and my son could train and log flight hours toward becoming private pilots after so much fun and enjoyment from watching other pilots fly their small aircraft in and out of this private airfield. Zuehl airfield also has an approved aerobatics box for high-speed maneuvers like you see pilots in sport airplanes perform at aviation shows. It is quite exciting to watch these pilots practice performing barrel rolls, high-speed spins then rapidly speed upward into a stall, free fall for a few moments and thankfully, finally, their engine would re-start the plane flying again at the last minute! Watching aerobatics is very exciting! We also enjoy watching small aircraft take off, land and do "touch-and-go" landings as well. This is a terrific place to visit but PLEASE, PLEASE adhere to a few simple rules for everyone's safety:

1) Abide by the speed limit everywhere inside the airfield! DO NOT SPEED!!
2) ALWAYS look for aircraft landing, taking off or taxiing around on runways. PLANES MAY BE TRAVELING FASTER THAN THEY APPEAR!!
3) ALWAYS YIELD the right of way to aircraft! ALWAYS LOOK for incoming planes BEFORE crossing the ends of the runway.
4) Pilots may not be able to see you while taxiing, landing and taking off from the runway and taxiways! AIRCRAFT ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY!!

I hope you enjoy visiting the Zuehl Airport Flying Community!

I went here to visit. I had heard of this place for a good while before actually stopping by. I was pleasantly surprised at how secluded and quiet it is. The runway is in good shape. There is a good sized community on site. Everyone waves at everyone. Even just a visit to a friend, I felt at home.
