One of the best summer camps/after-school programs around for San Marcos Youth. The program is about fostering relationships, through volunteering, attending workshops, educational experiences, art and recreation. The executive director has decades of experience working with children and is a notable figure in the San Marcos community. While small, the space nurtures a closeness for kids who might otherwise not be able to socially connect with other children. There are lessons and real communication happening. Little to no cellphone use, kindness, understanding morals and fun all rolled into one. YSB is a San Marcos staple that helps children from all backgrounds.

Warning for Texas state students and others! Never volunteer or send your kids here! I’m saying this because I did volenteer here from Texas state student program I had to for a class I was so excited but to my disappointment the building was super old and outdated the lady who runs it is not only a liar but doesn’t even know how to run it there was no youth service we were providing and nothing we were doing to make an difference in the youth of San Marcos which is what is advertised! From the first day I was there I was more a maid than a volunteer since we had no youth to teach that’s all we could really do or we would sit and update documents from years past which was a lot of copying and pasting which is not what I had signed up to do I had signed up to further my knowledge of youth service and learned nothing then the owner had the gall to go behind my back to my professor and say I wasn’t doing work when there was no work to do! Now why I wouldn’t send your kids here I’m sorry but we are not in the early 2000’s anymore the place had roaches daily and little space like what are kids supposed to do there sit and play with board games that are molding from the inside out or go to the computer room with computers from the early 90’s to do their homework? Come on like there are much better after school programs I could go into a lot more detail of why you should just avoid this place but I’m being nice even though I had a horrible experience the only reason no one else has posted anything is because students will fail their class if they say anything negative so again stay away student parents and volunteers!
