After 80 years of partnering with the Boy Scouts of San Antonio, the United Way no longer believes in the goals of Scouting. We live in a time when conserving our natural resources, training young people to be new leaders, and understanding citizenship is so desperately needed. And now, the United Way of San Antonio thinks we DON'T need those things? Well, if the United Way can't support the cherished conservation, leadership, and citizenship values of Scouting, don't expect my support any longer. What an awful example you are setting for the young people of San Antonio.

Tears came to my eyes after I needed information for San Antonio and Beaxer County were prescribed to me by The United Way of San Antonio TX. I got resources and directions for my life saving needs. Veterans are amazed by the results of just calling them and telling it like it is. Outstanding service 🤠.

My Google keeps such great records of my calls and locations! I had forgotten about having to call the United Way main phone like!!

I just can't get over how well google keeps track of every call I make and place I go! Kinda Neato it is, but as a victim of abuse it is also so scary...I shall muddle on.

I would like to mention that The United Way phone call was to find the location to drop off about seven boxes and several small shopping bags of donations of clothes, shoes, jackets, coats and toys w/ small amount of dishes that will go to an organization assisting the Migrant Children and Families that have suffered the trip to come and try to enter the United States from fear of their home country.

Lucky the operator reminded me of the previous location I had previously left donations at. The Catholic Charities at their location on Ashby n French Place in San Antonio.

My sis and I drove up, I entered and immediately a worker and assistant we're at out car to unload all we had managed to stuff in the car.

Always asking if I needed a verification of items for tax purposes. This location is so helpful and accomadating. My need for a tax deduction is mute.

I have given them items I dug from trash we Americans throw away so easily, items given to me by people knowing the items will reach the hands of needed parents and children, items I purchased and no longer need. All the items washed and folded, cleaned and repaired, and given a second chance to please a child and put a smile on a parents face.

I can only hope they will walk a little bit further to get to their goal or achieve the dream of a loving parent who had no choice but to let go.

Photos not available due to the privacy of clients, workers, and mine.

You may donate if you wish, just contact the United Way and they will help you do just that, help those that still have the dream left while all else was taken away!

So it's United Way drive time again and I'm filling out my Campaign Pledge Form. I start looking for the Scouts USA UW code when I realize it's nowhere to be found. So...I did some digging and I've recently learned of the new "funding model" of the United Way of San Antonio - and it's not good. Support for Scouts USA aka Boy Scouts is gone meanwhile I can't figure out how some other agencies that are receiving funding contribute to "Growing Strong Individuals & Families". #confused

***PLEASE NOTE*** It is still possible to designate DIRECT donations to Scouts USA VIA CODE 310 which is what I plan to do for this year. Next year when the campaign form shows up on my desk - unless support for Scouts USA is reinstated - most likely I'll respectfully decline participation in the annual United Way coporate funding drive and merely send my donations directly to the Scouts and other agencies near and dear to my heart. I detest UWSA leadership bundling buckets of agencies together as a platform and then hoping I'll give my hard earned monies to groups THEY think will grow strong individuals...including groups that do not align with my core values.
