Union County Family YMCA - Marysville, Ohio

My opinion is formulated by my experience of having been a member to multiple YMCA facilities in many counties across Ohio, and quite a few states across the U.S.A.

The Marysville OH YMCA has got to be the most god aweful, lackluster, poorly maintained, money grubbing YMCA that i have ever been to.

It is a waste of money for those who wish to take part of the facilities in their own time, and until there is a Planet Fiteness... this location will never change.
-Their workers are absolutely miserable people and likewise...miserable to work with.

-The facilities are almost never available, and are taken up at all hours of the day for activities.

-Their "schedules" dont reflect the
activities they decide to do last minuet, meaning that if you decide to go to the pool during the 1 hour duration you have to go... its likely taken up by a randomly scheduled activity.

-The fiteness gym equipment is piss poor, and doesnt work properly.

-The locker rooms are the dirtiest i have ever seen, with lockers so rusted their unusable.

-The parking lot is among the worst in the state, riddled with 6" potholes.
All i want to do is work out, and take my son to the pool... neither of which can be done due to such a cluster-f*ck of terrible management.

I have been a member for 5 months too damn long, due to a lack of options.

I will now drive 20-25 minuets to work out and swim, because this has been one of the worst experiences of my life.

Giving the Marysville Y a 5 stars because I don’t understand why they have so many bad reviews! I’m a mom to 2 young kids and the membership is worth its weight in GOLD solely because of the kid zone! They have accommodating hours so that I can exercise and have an hour to myself! If you don’t want to exercise in the gym, you can do a group fitness class, swim, simply take a hot shower in peace or read a book in the lobby! Compared to gyms in Columbus that we are used to, this place is CHEAP! I just took my two young kids to the therapy pool today that is 90 degrees - mama and the kids loved it! There’s also so many activities for kids- my daughter is excited about gymnastics! The gym itself is not perfect but it has everything you need and some newer equipment too! I have really enjoyed my experience here so far - a place for everyone to find something to enjoy!

There is no reason for the locker rooms to be as dirty as they are. I understand it takes time to replace equipment but some lockers are literally rusted to the point of debilitation. The shower floors are almost always grimy as if theres never been a mop ran through. Please give some love to the most used part of the Y. This makes the rest of the experience worse

As a boy's Jr Cavs basketball coach, I'm incredibly disappointed in how the games were run this year. Because of tight scheduling, and lack of resources, they regularly skipped foul calls. We came back to play a makeup game 2 weeks after the season ended, only to be saddled with a single referee who didn't call a shooting foul the ENTIRE game. By the end of the game, boys were playing tackle basketball. Giant waste of my time, and creates a toxic basketball culture for children. We'll take our volunteer hours and money elsewhere.

Been going here for a couple months now with my 2 year old. Quit my other gym because of the child care option alone with YMCA. I have the central Columbus pass, it’s annoying that Union county is like the only one that’s not “included” on the pass. I mean even bellfountaine location is included. But anyway, technically we can still come and check in. Just not as quick and easy.

Positives:
1) childcare: I’ve been to 2 other YMCAs, this one’s my favorite. You can walk in and usually they will take you. I like that it’s tucked away so the kids can’t see adults coming by (helps with my little one and his separation anxiety). The staff puts a lot of effort into calming down my little one before calling me. The others had much lower tolerance. This one has actually had 💯 % success rate too! Only has called me about a diaper change.

2) the therapy pool. The location of it is quick and simple and it’s nice and heated. When I got in the mornings, people are very nice. Lots of elderly and their smiles and encouragement make my little ones day. Honestly, we take ours swimming every week to teach him. Even having that access alone has saved in cost with the membership vs swimming lessons.

3) they have little activities for the kids and such. Which I appreciate.

Negatives:

1) trying to work around all the scheduling between the child care schedule and all the scheduling going on with the pool can be hard. I’m a bit more flexible than most and I still get a bit frustrated.

2) the gym is a little small. But I’d say that it’s more updated than the other locations I’ve been to. It’s hard to go at a time where it’s not crammed with people though.

3) would like to see more fitness classes in the afternoon times. But that’s my same complaint for all the YMCAs.

Love this YMCA. Their swimming pool is pretty big and hot tub is the best. I love their yoga sessions. They have got plenty of classes every day from boxing to karate. Their gym does not have a lot of equipment but other than that its great to get involved in all the different activities.
