The game room is kinda small but there are tables and space to sit down and play some games or read. They have movie nights on Fridays and celebrate birthdays with cards and treats all the time. There's always room for improvement and they try. The place is operated by volunteers and donations so there's no cover fee. Summer Yakventures hiking trips are FREE.

The YAK left an 11 year old child out on a remote trail at the Eagle River Nature Center in June 2023 while on a group field trip. They got all the way back to Palmer (41 miles away) and did not even know the child was missing until the father of the abandoned child informed them that a stranger who was hiking in the area had found his child alone on the trail in the pouring rain and called the police. I would NOT trust this organization, The YAK, with my children, nor would I even want to hike with them as a volunteer. Can you imagine getting left behind, unarmed, on a remote trail in bear country in the pouring rain as a child, let alone an adult? No thank you.

I heard they forgot a child while on a hike in eagle River which is a common place for alot of bears and they didn't notice the kid was gone until they got back to their center in palmer, very unprofessional should've had an attendants list like other childcare centers

These people left a minor to fend for himself out in the woods and bear country after going off without him . No leader from their group did proper safety on having one guide in front and another in the back for those who have fallen behind . Some random hikers had to help this poor child out of the woods . And call the police to notify parents . Since this business did not notify the parents to begin with . Poor safety and negligence.

Youth coffee shops and gathering centers open and close all the time, everywhere. What is rare is for a place like The Yak to be open. The Yak seems to be open a lot (almost never closed when I am driving by). That tells me people go there and that it is a place where God is working.

Great job!
