You know, community members GIVE items to Salvation Army so that this organization can further their cause and it is run so poorly. I called to donate several good pieces of furniture. Was told a pick up would be today. No follow up call to tell me they weren’t coming. I take time out of my day to be here. I call back and what am I told? “Oh, I just asked director and we are a week behind. Won’t be for another week.” Why wasn’t I told this in the first place? No apology? Nope. Just poor management and employees who don’t care.

The Tokens of Hope program changed my life. I came to the Sally, hopeless and homeless, but with the amazing guidance, support, and emotional experience that Tammy, Vanessa, and program director Erica provided, I am leaving a woman who rich in spirit, employed, confident, and surrounded by a group of amazing people. The staff goes above and beyond. They are kind, compassionate, and are all people who genuinely care. I am grateful for the people who created this safe environment and it's given me the opportunity, tools, and confidence to be my true self again. I've gained employment, friends, and strengthened my family relationships at home, and in the community. I am grateful all day. It feels very good to be proud of myself again. Ty for giving me strength and courage, and sharing in this joyful time in my life. Ill always remember Zach for letting me in and giving me a place to sleep. Truly God's working through the staff and residents here and his grace is poured out daily. Ty Tammy, and Vanessa (y'all are a great team)

These employees, all of them are saints! I am fortunate enough to be a resident here,( the are only 10 beds available), because there are so many who get passed over, there are just not enough resources in Lubbock for the amount of homeless people, that being said the employees have to deal with so much stress as I'm sure they are and yet they have a level of professionalism mixed with extreme kindness and empathy towards us that is what makes this experience so rewarding and lasting going forward. Tammy Garcia is my case worker and I have to give all me respect and appreciation to her as she is patient and godly with me which has been exactly what I have needed at this time in my life, my whole attitude toward life and living a better one is now engulfed with hope and joy because of the genuine heart of this beautiful woman, I love her and all of the employees here at the Lubbock shelter and I ALWAYS will.
Thank you William Booth for your heart and foresight so many years ago, you would be so proud of the legacy you have left for us.

The Salvation Army's approach of enabling homeless individuals with drug addictions to sustain their habits while neglecting other essential needs is deeply problematic. This allows drug addicts to exploit the system, leaving little to no funding available for those genuinely in need. It is disheartening to witness a family with five children living on the streets, only to be met with laughter and denial when seeking assistance from the Salvation Army. The presence of drug addicts outside the organization, armed and intimidating, further exacerbates the situation, making it nearly impossible for anyone to access the help they require. If resources were not wasted on individuals who show no desire to improve their circumstances, there would be more funds available to address the root causes of homelessness and prevent it altogether. It is crucial to redirect our efforts towards effective solutions rather than perpetuating the cycle of homelessness.
