If you found my review helpful, please like it . This was my fist time to Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish in Jackson, California and unfortunately will be my last time. After the Liturgy of the Word on the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, you would expect any priest - including their pastor - would give a homily related to the readings especially our Gospel. Priests should never - ever - use their homily for topics unrelated to the readings when the scriptures is to embolden our relationship with Jesus Christ. Sure, there might be topics that "touches" the readings like why parishioners should donate. Unfortunately, Pastor Colin Wen chose a unrelated topic: his views in music. In addition to sharing how Pastor Colin Wen felt about music, how it should be used, why it should be used, and what types of music to use, I was waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting ... on how his views on music connected with our readings. To me as a visitor, it sounded like Pastor Colin Wen just wanted a venting session on music when it should be held outside of Mass to the wider community. If we are suppose to be led by a shepherd to follow closer to Christ, then I would not recommend Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish to any of our friends or family especially those who value the gift and order of our Liturgy within our Roman Catholic Church.

Being new to the Parish a few years ago and having returned to my faith after nearly 15 years, I found St. Katharine Drexel Parish I have never felt so welcomed to any Parish I have ever attended. Father Wen and the Parish family invited me in and welcomed me home. I grow spiritually from Fr. Wen’s homilies, as he calls us to live as Christ has commanded us and is not afraid to address topics important in our modern culture. He takes his role as Pastor to his flock very seriously and is a source of inspiration and encouragement. I feel blessed to be a part of this Parish.

Saint Katherine Drexil Parish is an amazing place to encounter the Church started by Jesus Christ 2000 years ago. This parish has an amazing warm and inviting staff and Priest, several ministries serving the people of Amadore County and amazing community of Parishioners who live and follow Christ. This Church for anyone, Catholic or non Catholic, to encounter the fullness of faith through Jesus Christ.

My granddaughters had their first communion in this church. Beautifully done. As you walk in you feel welcome and at peace. Even if no one talks to you, you feel home?

My husband and I were enjoying the sunset from the parking lot after grabbing coffee from Starbucks. A man walked over to our car and said this is private property so we must leave. My husband explained that we were just enjoying God's beautiful work and were not doing anything inappropriate. He said the sherriff will come and make us leave so it's best we leave and said that he was not discriminating. Sure. That has never happened to us before. What kind of church is this?! Definitely not the body of Christ.

Unfortunately, I too had a very "different" feeling attending mass here yesterday on Palm Sunday. Very click"ish". I have a strong background in Roman Catholic Faith. Attended Catholic/Parochial School my whole life; even through Grad School. I am also a teacher at a Catholic School in SF. I am born and raised Californian for 4 generations. Never have I felt this un-welcome at any Church of any Catholic/ Christian Faith. Music:)!!! Was very good (I wish I could give her 10 stars)*. The environment was just a bit different, not exactly traditional which is ok ( no stained glass/ no traditional older art). I was looking to see if St.Patrick downtown was open and it was not; it directed me here (maybe they should re-open the historical church in old town?)*. I have several homes in CA and one happens to be in this area, and I also have animals so I have made many friends here in this area:). There were many greeters at this Church with name tags, but they don't say anything and only talk with their buddies. Most faces of the Parishioners looks "sad" "gloomy" "depressed". The priests the same, be happy!!!! Cultural diversity on a low so if you aren't from here, they seem to "know" you aren't from here and don't look the "standard". I am proud to say that my school church, and Catholic Churches here in SF would welcome any new friends right in, (even my school children would:) makes me proud)*. This whole situation made me reflect on how proud I am to be part of an open community that allows anyone who believes in Jesus to enter. I said hello to someone wayyy after mass was over and an older woman from across the church "shushed me "!!! LOL.. Really funny! After that, the few people left in the church left so fast, like they were scared or would get "in trouble"!!! Seems like a few small town "bullies" there. There were many very loud / playing children (no big deal really) during mass and the grumpy woman didn't "shush" any of them, and that was during mass. Pretty sure she "knew them" and was picking on me..lol... After reading the other comments, thank God I wasn't kicked out of the parking lot lol like the other poor people here. Someone told me "Grace" is good church to try if you need somewhere to attend and other Christian churches along the way, maybe they would be more inviting. All mass responses were also "sing" song responses. Good for the kids I assume:). Just happy I received communion (no other Eucharistic ministers- took really long).* Thanks be to God:) Blessings, I just wish I read the reviews first* Didn't realize I would ever need to do that regarding a Church Community. Have a great day:)

Very reverent atmosphere. Father Wen is a true pastor of souls plus he gives dynamite sermons. He also offers many opportunities for confession which IMHO is one of the marks of a great priest. There are many volunteers to help Father W. which he really needs, since he is the only priest, serving three separate churches in his parish. I am so blessed to have found Saint Katharine Drexel parish.
