We live in Summit County where the rescues get scooped up left and right. We also have cats, so finding the right fit was important and we were struggling to find that locally.

Our friend adopted his sweet dog from Soul Dog Rescue in the past year, and recommended that we check out their dogs. I found some dogs I liked online and (if I’m honest) felt pretty strong about another dog that was in foster care. We decided it would still be a good idea to go to the shelter and check on our application and potentially meet some dogs either way.

Nicosia (9mo) was on my list of dogs to see, and she just happened to be the first one we met. I was feeling very anxious while we waited to meet her, and when she came out to see us, we fell in love. We were allowed to walk her around the block and over to an open area covered in snow. It was nice to be able to spend one on one time with her. She was so sweet, so gentle, so loving.

It felt a little wild to me - we didn’t spent a ton of time with her, but we knew she was the one. We went back inside and signed the paperwork to take her home.

It’s been a week with (now) Nellie and it’s hard to explain just how much love and light she’s brought to our lives! She is incredibly easy to train and just a dream of a dog. Of course as a young dog we have hiccups, but it’s clear to see someone was doing work with her previously. Thank you Soul Dog Rescue - the work you do is amazing!

my fiancé & i just recently got a puppy at soul dog rescue. we had the bestest experience there i could not stress that enough. all of the lovely ladies at the counter were so so so helpful & extremely kind throughout our entire visit. it was our first time going in when we were looking at adopting our now new addition to the family. when he was first brought out to us he was extremely shy & very unsure of everything. he would not walk on a leash, didn’t want to be touched, he was so nervous and was constantly hiding behind us. he is now the sweetest puppy and so loving. we’ve had him for two weeks now and i am so grateful& happy we found him. i definitely recommend & would encourage anyone who’s looking for a new dog/kitty they would try this place out 🪽🤍

Some of these reviews are absolutely insane. This place may be in renovation and rough around the edges, but the care they show and the treatment of the animals speaks for itself.

We came in today, had a lovely experience and took a new kitten home. He had some shyness at the rescue but once he got to his introductory room with all the amenities, he warmed up immediately. This cat clearly was loved, because we were told of his sweet nature and sure enough- this shy cat may be a little anxious, but that is quickly changing. Despite the nervousness, he is very affectionate and social once you meet him on his level. He became a lap cat very quickly.

I’m very happy that this shelter has a rather long application. So many people think of an animal as an accessory. That is not the case with Soul Dog. They are family, not fashion statements.

PS- if you don’t understand why dogs and cats need to be fixed- you have no place caring for an animal.

I had two dogs spayed here. One about 10 years ago and one a couple of days ago. Both times I felt they did a great job at spaying and treating my dog well. Friendly and helpful communication on the phone and at the clinic. It also was extremely easy to make an appointment online. Thanks again for your help and for keeping spay and neuter affordable.

We have 3 soul pets - two cats and a pup. SDR is one of the best rescues around. I adopted our first kitten from them with a congenital and abnormal skull issue; they provided me with all sorts of care regarding her and today, she is healthy happy and thriving! We foster failed our next kitten, and adopted our pup Rue from them. They have consistently provided quality care, resources, and the sweetest pets. I cannot recommend this org. Enough. If you are seeking to foster, or adopt! This is the place!

I love what they do! I had a great experience adopting my dog Nita! Someone was in contact with me the next day after I applied and got back to me in a timely manner anytime I wanted to learn about a dog from their website. I agree with reviews that they are very particular with their adoption process (as they should be!!) Debbie was fostering my dog at the time and made this process so easy, she is 100% the reason I ended up with my pup!

Some of these dogs need a little extra love and patience but it is so worth it once they know you're their forever home!

I recommend Soul Dog to anyone who is serious about adopting a rescue, they all deserve a loving home!

I love and will recommend Soul Dog to everyone I know. They are the only rescue that didn’t discriminate against me for being disabled. Every other “rescue” refused to let me GIVE A DOG A HOME because I am disabled. Fine, keep your dog and keep barely staying open because you can’t afford to, because you keep discriminating against disabled folks. But not Soul Dog. They gave me the most beautiful, majestic, smart, beautiful, loving, beautiful and beautiful dog ever to walk this earth full of ableist dog shelters. Did I mention she’s beautiful? She’s beautiful. She’s my service dog, and she picks up on things so quickly, like most herding breeds do. And I wouldn’t have her if it wasn’t for Soul Dog not being discriminatory against disabled folks. They also have a reasonable adoption fee, unlike a lot of these places out here in Whitelandia, this strange paradise that is The Front Range, where you must own a half a million dollar 1bd.5bath “home”with a 5x6 foot “yard” in order to be charged $900 for a rescue. This place does good things, it’s full of good people, and I will never adopt from anywhere ever again so long as I can help that!

I'm actually pleased with my experience. I went to view a few kittens that I could adopt but my son and I found a very beautiful little girl Ori. (We've changed her name to Pumpkin)

She is loving, playful and very Cuddley!! We've are planning to return to visit Mr. Germain, Hopefully we can adopt him too, to give Ms. Pumpkin a playmate. ❤️
