My kids have been at shopneck for a few years now. I will say since Andrew came, I’ve seen a lot of positive changes. As a single mom who works full time, it’s nice to know I have a safe place for my babies to be after school. All of the staff there is amazing! Jan is always so sweet and on top of the kids when they check in and out.

My kids have been in a couple altercations, as any young kids would… but they always seem to resolve whatever issues there are.

Boys and girls club has been amazing with my boys! They have loved every second of being there. We were in a tough situation trying to find child care after school I am so glad that we found them

I recently signed up my child and went to the club on Wednesday August 21st for this: “Wednesday August 21 is Back to Club Night starting at 5:30pm. All Club families are invited to come see what a day at Club is like. We'll have lots of fun activities and snacks to share too!” And wow, did I see what “a day at the Club” is like. Already in the community, I was hearing rumors that it’s “chaos” and even when I wanted to sign my child up, I had teachers discouraging of sending my child there. Being a club kid myself, I thought “no way maybe they don’t understand”. Unfortunately they were right. I come in and see pure chaos. Kids running around, toys and materials thrown everywhere. I witnessed a group of kids break apart a Hungry Hippos game and throw the heads across the room. Not a single adult introduced themselves as I wondered in and out of rooms. No signs of the director or assistant director. Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver boasts “a variety of tested, proven, and nationally recognized programs designed to empower kids and teens to excel in school, become good community members and lead healthy, productive lives” but I saw none of that. Seems like the staff does not have enough support to achieve that. I look at the job opportunities and they want to pay 20-23 dollars an hour for a social worker with a bachelors degree!? Or “bonus points if you have a teaching certificate” but the club will pay you 20 dollars an hour. That’s the problem right there, you are demanding college degree/ skilled job expectations with entry level job wages. Shame on you Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. It is so sad to see that the interest is only bussing as many kids in for the numbers and having a revolving door of staff to “watch” them, while putting the facade of “quality programming”. Seems like the club’s higher ups are doing a disservice to these kids and taking advantage of low income families to line the pockets of senior management. It is so disheartening knowing that this is how it was with parents present coming in to see what the club is like, I can’t imagine what it’s like when we are not allowed in.

Love the staff... Any issues with kids get handle right away no matter the ages. Talks about our kids get talk away from other kids.

I go there, sometimes it's tiring like the staff, sometimes they're nice, sometimes they're mean but it's fun.
