Great place to go if you want your identity stolen. I came here to detox and get sober for a couple of months unfortunately the whole place is crawling with criminals stealing your belongings while your in group classes. The Ranch gives out chores to residents without concern of the their prior charges. For example: They give mail to felons to distribute to other residents unfortunately in my case my personal info was stolen and money stolen without me knowing until months later fighting with creditors and banks. They also had a bonafide identity thief do store runs for residents all the while he was stealing thousands of dollars in benefits. Nobody noticed he originally came in with a backpack and suddenly left with duffle bags full of designer clothes. After completion of this program some of these thiefs get the honor of working in the office. If you have the misfortune of battling addiction and have to come here do not keep anything on your person's and never get mail sent here. The freedom ranch was the worst experience i had to go through on my journey to recovery. I haven't let this awful experience ruin my sobriety quite the opposite I intend to overcome it like the boss says " Some are sicker than other's" .

I found the Freedom Ranch in 1996 and finally discovered that I was standing in the way of my own recovery. The Ranch freed me from all my excuses blocking my recovery. There are no distractions. No cars, no job pressures, no girlfriends, no using pals, no cell phones, no possessions to protect, just recovery. I immediately integrated into to the fellowship because everyone there was exactly like me. I was welcomed with open arms by the staff and accepted and encouraged by my fellows. Life at the Ranch is rugged but quite comfortable. The mess hall is more than adequate and hunger was never an issue. The bonds I made with the men I lived with have stuck with me and I'll never forget them or the staff. What I most remember about the Ranch is friendship, kindness and the incredible support of my fellow Ranchers. We put the well being of each other ahead of ourselves and I discovered that to be the foundation of my recovery, a willingness to reach out and help others. I learned that helping and caring for the guys around me facing the deadly disease of addiction gave me tremendous hope and confidence that there was and is a solution. That happened the very first day I arrived. There are no ex Freedom Ranchers. We're Ranchers for LIFE.

This place is shameful. Mike is a coward who treats people with mental health issues poorly to say the least. They kick you out & drop you off at 7-11 with no phone call out in the middle of nowhere. They rob you of your food/snacks & cash. They refuse medical attention & didn’t have a refill for meds. They are a poor excuse for a ‘residential’ & I definitely would not recommend.

A credit to San Diego and the amazing people who live within. My son Gavin has had his issues throughout the years and I must say that visiting him after 30 days at the Freedom Ranch that I was at a loss for words. A complete transformation of his character and goals. I have no idea what sort of treatment clients receive here but I can vouch for its effect on my son. Please keep up the good work.

Zero adherence to their class syllabuses. If you want to watch a ton of YouTube videos all day and be surrounded by people who are only there to avoid prison, some who are placed in positions of leadership capable of assigning punishment to other residents for violations of "unwritten" rules than that's what you should expect. The paid staff does little to nothing for the residents in comparison to the volunteers. Bunks were 35° during the winter time and the heating system was either intentionally unused or neglected to be repaired. To call it a ranch is laughable. 2 trapped wild ducks in a cage is the extent of their livestock. It's more like a really disfunctional 6th grade camp with a record of residents returning over and over again. Great place if you're on paper and need to appease the courts. If you self pay go anywhere else.

My husband starts this week and I'm grateful for the opportunity to get him well. Two friends of mine who completed the program said he can do well there.
