Christos Anesti!

This is a beautifully adorned Church. It doesn’t have a protestant or latin (catholic) style choir. Thank God, at St Anthony it’s Byzantine chanting with several men from Orthros through Divine Liturgy.

The priest (Fr Peter) gave a good sermon, told the people to fully live the life of the Church, to say the Jesus prayer, fast, read the Gospel and spiritually edifying books, keep the Church’s calendar and keep Christ in mind continually.

One challenge is that there are many visitors who are not Orthodox such as various protestants, Armenian apostolic, coptic, Ethiopian (Tawahedo), and catholics who assume they can receive holy communion at an Eastern Orthodox Church. The Church bulletin clearly states that only those baptized and chrismated in the Eastern Orthodox Church can receive holy communion. The Church cannot give holy communion to non-Orthodox, join the body of Christ and receive holy communion; this is the only way.

The people seemed friendly, although I don’t go to Church for socializing, I go to enter into the house of the Lord and receive His holy body and precious blood. I will glady attend Orthros and Divine Liturgy here again.

I wish I could give more stars. The priest is fantastic, the liturgy beautiful, but to be perfectly honest the parishioners can be kind of cold when it comes to new comers, especially if you come alone. Not exactly what you want in a solid orthodox parish, most every other orthodox parishes parishioners are usually very welcoming but this place kind of gave me the cold shoulder or treat you like you don't exist every time I came. Sorry but someone had to say it.

Truly beautiful, inside and out. A huge slice of heaven in East Pasadena. Both priests are very friendly and easy to talk to. I’m still in the process of becoming a member, but it’s a true joy to attend Liturgy every Sunday.
