Really liked the hotel itself and the location is great. Right by the beach.

Has a very easy check in and they have free breakfast in the morning

2 things keep this hotel from a PERFECT score. One, the CLEANING STAFF never tidied up my room when I put the sign on my door. Very upsetting especially because I’m traveling with my young daughter. Two, the heater makes a lot of noise when it’s on at night.

I could have given a great review of the Rio Sands but the management is unable to open the pool for absolute bullshit reasons. We payed for a hotel with a pool. Firs night it was raining and we used the pool. The next day they claimed it could not be opened in the rain because the ADA lifts are not waterproof? After speaking with the manager they got maintenance, who apparently is the only person capable of removing the pool cover out. The next day, no rain , so I assume no problem. We ask for towels and get a litany of excuses why we can't use the pool. It is absolute bull shit and if managment does not want to operate a pool, shut it down permanently and remove it from the description. We feel cheated.

Nice clean room for a quick trip to Santa Cruz. Bed was super comfortable and everything from the lobby, to the pool and the continental breakfast was clean. Would definitely stay here again.

Never,ever stay here. Relatives i stayed with were charged extra for supposedly smoking in room which none of us did. We were told half hour before they turned water off and all three of us needed to shower before leaving for the day. They said emergency happened, but Construction was going on in other rooms at the time..hmmm. Breakfast Cold,stale cereal only. What a rip off and basically scam.

Very well located and very tidy motel just blocks from the beach. Also quite well priced compared to other places in the area.

Stayed just one night, but would come back for a brief visit. The bed was very comfortable, too.

I expected a bit more from the place. Full kitchen - not a flipping utensil, glass, or dish in it. They asked for $50 more for a "kitchen set." Hard NO. The hot tub chemicals were so strong we only used it once, and it ruined my swimsuit. I informed them - not even an I'm sorry. The TV had 9 hot spot lights glaring through it, and the bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok, if you like oatmeal every day. But, the beach is within walking distance, as well as several state state parks. They let us check out an hour late, which we appreciate. It was clean.

Check in was easy and front desk help were friendly. However not trained as well as they should be, as they struggled to give me a cash receipt. Room was very nice and clean. Clearly rooms have been remodeled recently. I liked the bed as it was firm, and king bed came with four large pillows. They all have balconies or back porch. I would probably recommend downstairs as porches seems nicer. Our room had a small refrigerator and coffee pot. Biggest complaints would be TV never worked. It would turn on but no signal for channels. We were not there to watch TV but like to watch the news. Called several times and were promised someone would come fix it. We stayed three days, and they never came. I see this in other reviews for them so it's clearly an issue that needs to be addressed. Pool and hot tub close too early 9:00PM. Other issue would be their continental breakfast. It's in a beautiful room and lots of seating. Has juice, coffee, waffle maker, toast and cereal. Some sort of yogurt machine that didn't work. So, no yogurt. I prefer something individually package in these situations and yogurt is a must for many people. Also, no flavored creamer, come on these days that's a must. We went and purchase some and left it. Location is good and beach is right there, however it's kind of dirty in that section. You really have to go down the beach a bit to find a nice spot. There is a nice restaurant right at the beach called Venus and I would recommend it. Overall, I would stay there again even though price was a little high for what we got. It's a cute place with friendly help and good location.
