REI - Grand Junction, Colorado

I'm leaving four stars here because every time I go into this store, the employees are nothing but great. Always friendly and helpful, so despite what I'm going to say next that's a reason I continue to shop this store. HOWEVER! I'm astounded at the lack of selection of normal REI type products here. I moved to Grand Junction from the Denver area last summer, and I loved the store in Lakewood. That good location wasn't that big, and this Grand Junction store seems only somewhat smaller. But their shoe selection seems like about half as of that other store. Just like every other American these days, a deal on something is kind of nice, but their "garage sale" area is a jumbled dark corner. The other regular sale racks are racks miscellaneous racks of different sizes. You can't really figure out what's what without just looking through everything. NOT! I believed if things were organized and merchandise properly that clearance stuff would probably go away quicker. I realize it's not the management's fault for the lousy location corporate has put the store in, but I think it's not the best example of what an REI store should represent. I hear REI is closing stores and doing things that other corporate businesses do. This is probably why...besides the fact that you can go anywhere and pay straight retail for the same name brand stuff. Just sayin...
I know how corporate conglomerations work, and local management can't do much about it. But hopefully someone from corporate will read this review. With a growing town of this size and recreational paradise in all directions, this store should be a little more into it than what they are.

I’m a backcountry snowboarder, resort rider, hiker, backpacker, climber, snow biker, and dirt biker. With the cold coming in this weekend I thought… “maybe I should grab a warmer set of base layer options” I drove 60 miles to this store knowing that options are limited but it’s a base layer and this is Colorado, no chance they won’t have that right? Well they did but for no less than $130, bottoms only. It’s sickening. There’s no local spots left to get gear and if there is they are doing the same as REI. Price gouging and manufacturing perceived value. REI is turning enjoying the outdoors into an elite hobby with no regard to the crowd that made them who they are. I’m sure they forgot that though even though we are the ones that spent entire paychecks weekly building up our closets full of gear. Jokes on you though, fads come and go, the loyalty of the patrons that built REI will never return.

After being a customer for over 12 years (an an employee for a year) REI sent me an email stating that I abused their return policy and am banned from ever returning anything again.

While working at REI, I did see people abuse this policy but I definitely did not. I have kept thousands of dollars of merchandise and the only returns were a few jackets I bought online to test the size and returned in new condition and two electronic gifts for family members who did not like them.

I understand if they felt I abused the policy but they would not tell me what returns I did violated their policy and were quite rude about it and kept sending me pre-scripted responses. I used to love REI and want to support them but they are overpriced corporate sellouts now. Me and my family will be taking our business elsewhere.

Large selection of outdoor gear and clothing, if you can't find an item they will you order it for you. Very helpful and super nice staff. It would be great if they had a small coffee shop.

Amazing customer service! We went in for the first time with zero knowledge on baby hiking carriers just to get an idea with no intent to buy same day. Emery took the time to show us the specs and features on every single one which influenced us to purchase one. I truly have never had someone be so invested in actualy wanting to help a customer make the best choice. Very knowledgeable and kind staff. Will definitely be returning here instead of our previous shopping spots

There is no better bicycle customer service in this valley. Jason and his crew are very knowledgeable. They listen to your needs and follow through. I found them to be extremely polite. They go over and beyond to help with bike issues.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BIKE SHOP!!!

Very helpful when buying shoes helped us try on knew what we needed to do to get a good fit and the price was good too
