My mother was just denied admission to NHC Oak Ridge because NHC refuses to cover the cost of the retina injections she requires in both eyes to combat macular degeneration and prevent blindness.

People need to know this about rehab centers / nursing homes - the facility gets to decide what treatment they’ll allow while under their care. Even if you’ve been getting this treatment for years and your insurance normally pays for your treatment with no problem (e.g., chemo, radiation, eye injections, etc.), you can’t just go to your oncologist or specialist while admitted to the rehab/nursing facility. They control your care entirely and they can and do and will refuse you any treatment they don’t want to pay for. This is idolatry at its worst - putting the dollar over the patient. How utterly hypocritical and appalling for a business that’s supposedly all about patient care and wellness to refuse critical care because they care first and foremost about their bottom line over what the patient needs while under their care. Shame on you, NHC.

My Mom would call for a bed pan and have to wait so long she soiled herself - time and time again. This caused skin breakdown on her behind and, as a diabetic, this can result in critical wound issues.

NHC staff are woefully overworked, underpaid, and understaffed to a point that it’s unsafe for the patient and staff. Think twice about sending your loved one here.

After reading the negative reviews, it’s definitely time for a positive one. Recently my father was admitted to NHC for some rehab and therapy. I can’t say enough good things about this facility. They ALL treated him with the very best care. The therapists were top notch and worked with him to help build him up and get him home. The nursing staff were always pleasant anytime we asked anything of them. I also observed their behaviors towards other patients and it was nothing but kindness and good, quality care in my opinion. Everything was explained to our family on what to expect and what the goals for my father was. Of course, no family wants to think of their loved one being there (unfortunately some drop them off and never look back 😭). I would recommend this facility for any family that may need short or long term care. This is not our first time having a family member here either as 3 years ago, we also had an Aunt that had to be admitted for rehab. Although it was during COVID time, and visitors were restricted, their care was still the very best and communication was very prompt and responsive.
Keep up the good work NHC, you have our support and recommendation. Thanks to each and every one of you that had a hand in my father’s care!

My mother has been at this rehab for a few weeks after a fall broke her hip. The entire staff, Dietary, Nursing, Social Workers, Front Desk, PT and OT were all amazing but I Want to recognize the CNA's they were amazing very attentive and on point. Yes at times my mom had to wait a while so they could finish with another patient. However when my mom was scared and out of place because she has never had to experience this before they were the ones that were there to comfort her when my sister or I was not. She was always clean and dry and the facility was always clean and smelled good. All the workers up and down the hall always greeted us and showed us that we were welcome there, the entire team always included me in all her care. Everything was laid out just perfectly. If I ever need service again for my mother or one of my clients with my company I will always refer them to NHC Oak Ridge.

My dad spent about 3 weeks at NHC in Oak Ridge for rehab and recovery from dehydration. I have nothing but good things to say. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They showed that they care for each patient. The food was tasty. Thanks for great care.

The care my grandmother received during her one month stay here was completely terrible. She would be left in urine soaked briefs for over 24 hours at a time and I know this because I marked her briefs on the inside with a black sharpie marker would go back the next evening when I was able to and the brief would still be on her. You could call and ask for assistance and the call light would go off for over an HOUR on numerous times. The food was absolutly terrible. Not to mention she couldn't feed herself and if my mother or family member wasn't there to help feed her she wouldn't get fed because staffing at NHC would not do so. She could also not take her medication as she needed assistance with this and we found her pills at bedside numerous times. Most of the staff was completely rude and not helpful when even trying to provide care to my grandma I asked for some towels to clean her up and felt like thst in itself was a sin as they hated getting me towels so I could bathe my own grandma. During my gradmothers her health and strength completely declined. This place did nothing but make her worse off. Do NOT consider sending your loved ones here. It's not a safe place, the workers are rude and the care is not there. This place needs new management or to be shut down by the State!

Amazingly clean. Caring staff. As with other places, it could always use more CNAs... but, as with other places, pay isn't the best for a CNA and long lasting help is hard to find. Food was delicious. My advice to anyone who has a loved one in a facility is to be there to help and advocate as much as you can.
