While I am sure the food pantry is there to help those in need of extra food in these hard times, I have discovered they do not equally distribute food to all those needing food. For instance, I pick up food for me and my son who lives in his own residence. He has three in his family, while I have one. They give us each just one box of food, so his family is expected to use the same amount of food as one person uses. Also, since I can see what is in each box, that is packed in advance, the food in the boxes are not the same. For instance, one time they only put ONE POTATO in one box, and three potatoes in the other. They never put fresh produce in the boxes, and seldom put baked goods in the boxes. Today, as I waited for my boxes to be loaded, I saw the car in front of me, as the worker handed a loaf of french bread to them through the window, but no one gave me a loaf of bread. At another time when they did have baked goods, instead of adding the extra baked goods to each box, they just put baked goods for one box, I suppose expecting me to divide it up with the other box. Today, one small box, had canned goods, beans, rice, a small box of dry cereal, and a frozen chicken in it, while the other box had the same but mac&cheese and a box of stuffing was in the other along with the canned goods. I saw on the table where the boxes were sitting, waiting to be loaded, as cars drove up, at one end were several large boxes, overflowing with food, large boxes of dry cereal, while at the other end of the table were small boxes, where the food did not even come to the top of the box. This makes me believe that some people in the town are treated more generously than those people the workers do not know, and even they are not given an equal amount of food in each box. There is only enough food in the box to last a couple of days, (unless you want to cook dry beans for three days, and live on rice) which you can only get once a month. Added to the small amount of food money I receive from the government, maybe I will be able to eat for three weeks at the most. In the state where I come from, I also lived in a small town, that didn't even have a city hall or grocery store, and they managed to collect enough food to load your car down with enough food to last a month, if you didn't have enough food money to see your through. My daughter worked for the food pantry, and they worked hard to find contributors to fill the food bank, and you could come twice a month. There needs to be a better system in acquiring donated food, here in Munday, (in texas you would think there would be plenty of fresh produce available) and more fairly handed out to those needing the food. The picture shows how much food they give for a family of three.
