My family's been a member at this climbing gym for about 9 years. Over the last year or so they've replaced all the American flags and gay pride flags with transgender flags. One of my bouldering partners was transitioning and was having problems with his hormone therapy. Not only was the transgender community at the gym bullying him and this was supported by staff, one of the transgender employees was/is actively bullying him. A stranger I might add. He's a 20 year old kid and they're pushing him towards suicide. I should also add that as a doctor I assisted in nine separate incidents of broken limbs all of which were compound fractures. Notably on two occasions staff members with no medical experience attempted to push bones back into children's legs. On another occasion an exchange student from Asia broke her anklep and while she was losing circulation to her foot another staff member was distracting EMS lying to them telling them that she was refusing care. I had to step in and insist that she be transferred to the hospital as she was about to lose her foot. This is a dangerous place to climb. It is dangerous because of the lack of training both technical and ethical of the staff members and the design of the bouldering area. For a gym that goes out of its way to present itself as a transgender friendly and almost overly friendly environment, I have never seen such vitriol targeting transgender climbers. On my last interaction there I had to physically stand between my bouldering partner and one of the staff members. All photos and videos would be too graphic to show and violate privacy rights. I expected improvement with the movement acquisition, instead safety standards and ethical standards have plummeted. My family has discontinued our membership and have moved to The Spot.

Love the walls. Routes changes often. Only downfall is it gets over crowded after 5pm making getting a good climb in difficult at times and parking impossible. Keep up the great work guys!!

Wish the teal membership was more obtainable or a part time job. Hate that I'll have to cancel for the outdoors very soon...

Thanks for the climbs guys!

All the movement staff is great but this gym particular really feels like home! Great setting on the unique walls & awesome training/mobility area upstairs! Definitely the gym to go to in Golden!

Fantastic gym, multiple areas to climb, boulder, work out, do yoga, etc. $79/month individual gets you access to the facilities, all the yoga and meditation classes, AND discounted climbing/movement seminars. The front desk staff are supportive, friendly, and kind. (They really do seem to enjoy answering questions, especially about gear!) The gym is clean and has an overall friendly vibe with music playing overhead. Can get VERY crowded in the evenings so be prepared to wait in between sends. Great gym, well worth the price!

I’ve been going to movement for years, but since the new ownership took over it’s really gone down the toilet. The cleaning schedule, weights area, classes, and overall experience has been basically ruined by the corporate ownerships thirst for profit. I slowly just wanted to be there less and less until I decided to freeze my membership for the season. They kept charging me full price for three months even though I called and emailed about it. After talking to the manager I was told the only way to get help was to leave a voicemail on some anonymous voicemailbox at corporate and someone would ‘text me back.’ Then a guy who only gave me his first name at the head office told me no refunds even though they admitted they overcharged me. Really disappointing and sad!! There are a lot of other great gyms out there though. Never going back to Movement.

The folks that work here are nice enough, but the state of the locker rooms make it hard to justify the relentless yearly price hikes. The classes are very popular and fill fast, which leads me to believe that perhaps having different membership tiers that give you unlimited access to classes would be a way to lower membership prices for folks who just want to climb. It would also be nice if there more flexible membership options (e.g 6-month, weekly, etc.). When you’re traveling for half the month (or year), it’s hard to justify a full monthly membership. Unfortunately, the 7-day punch pass rates are incredibly overpriced ($175 as of 2024, almost double a monthly membership), probably because they want to steer you towards a membership, which includes a doc fee to start if you aren’t a member of the AAC. All of this is to say that Movement’s pricing and membership model is astoundingly rigid given the sport’s culture and clientele.

My wife and I wanted to get certified to be able to take our kids to the gym and climb without having an instructor, this has now turned into a great family activity for all of us.
We took the Intro to rock climbing class this past Saturday and our instructor (so sorry cant remember his name) was Great! he explained everything clearly and thoroughly, he was very easy to get along with and made the experience very comfortable, I have to admit I was nervous going in, not knowing what to fully expect and within a few minutes of him explaining how things would go and what was to come, I felt at ease.
If you are thinking about trying Rock Climbing I would highly recommend Movement Golden. Great experience and look forward to coming in every week.
