Although the library itself has a fairly small selection of books, the librarians are very kind and helpful. However, it is often incredibly loud due to middle school students playing video games on the library computers. From what I've noticed, no one makes any effort to quiet them, and they are rarely, if ever, asked to move when someone needs to use the computers for legitimate research purposes. As a former high school student, this made it incredibly difficult to use the library for research and schoolwork.

Aside from the children, the library is clean and pleasant. There is a small, although useful, collection of reference books, along with some console games and movies that anyone with a library card can check out. I don't find myself using their collection often, but every time I have been, my experience has been excellent, barring the screaming adolescents.

Tl;dr: The library is small and clean and the employees are kind. Young teenagers use the computers to play video games and are very loud. If you're going to study here, bring some headphones and your own laptop.

Employees were very helpful,but book selection was very VERY POOR! I feel bad for the citizens of Monterey that they don't have a better PUBLIC LIBRARY!

Nice library for a small town but when I visited it was incredibly loud for a library. Everyone was chatting at whatever volume they wanted and the librarians didn't say anything.
