I had a first hand experience at the DMV office and I should say all staff were very professional and knowledgeable. When I say staff, I include the security and all ground staff. The internal queue was well organized and clear with directions; ample light and seating were available. However, it took me 2.5 hours waiting in the queue outside the office prior entering into the building. There was a small relief yet as an office staff came around to the customers( including me) to verify our visit, checking the required documents and providing us with a paper token number. That was commendable in my opinion👏I would suggest if the Operations at DMV could streamline( by modifying a counter/ extra counter for walk-in clients) during such surge. Again, this is my very first visit to DMV and a first hand experience; so kindly excuse me if this is not a frequent occurrence. 4 stars are just because of long wait time!!

Complaint Regarding Discriminatory and Unprofessional Behavior of Security Staff

Dear DMV Leadership,

I visited the Modesto DMV office at 1:30 PM on January 3, 2025, intending to ask a question regarding a document to determine whether I should wait in line or return home. Upon entering, I encountered an issue with one of your security personnel. The security guard, who was poorly dressed and displayed an unprofessional attitude, refused to speak to me or address my inquiry. Instead, she directed me to wait in the long line, stating I could only ask my question there.

What raised my concern was her apparent favoritism. I observed her assisting multiple Spanish-speaking individuals promptly, answering their questions and providing forms while ignoring others, including myself. While I deeply respect the Spanish language and community, such biased behavior in a public service office is highly inappropriate and unprofessional.

I raised this issue with a manager, Mr. Ray, who informed me that the security staff is not part of the DMV team. However, I found it peculiar that this security guard freely moved between different sections of the DMV and distributed forms, which is beyond what one would expect from her role.

I am requesting that the DMV leadership investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that all individuals visiting the DMV, regardless of their background, are treated equally and professionally. Favoritism and unprofessional conduct have no place in a public service setting.

Additionally, I plan to escalate this matter by addressing it with the Sacramento DMV head office. I trust you will take this complaint seriously and implement necessary changes to prevent such incidents in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
🇺🇸

Yesterday I went to the dmv with a friend to help him for his driving test but the lady at counter was so rude and she kept my title from my car that isn’t hers , also she wouldn’t even give me my phone at all when I asked nicely. When closing time came I went back to the dmv to go get my title from my car cause they lady didn’t even staple it when it should’ve been and the security (girl) I told her that a lady has grey hair and glasses kept my title from my car and it wasn’t given back , so she replied let me ask the manager (supposedly her) and she open the door the security (girl) and tells me they don’t have it and says to come back on Tuesday to ask for it . It’s a lie and basically when I’m there I always have problems with that lady next to the photo where you take pictures for your license

I had a very disappointing experience at the Modesto DMV. The tellers in the appointment line were extremely rude and impatient, showing no regard for customer service. In particular, Irene at window #5 was not only unprofessional but also crossed the line by questioning my political views—something completely inappropriate in this setting.

It’s clear that this location lacks proper oversight and training when it comes to customer service. I strongly urge management to take a closer look at how employees are treating people. DMV visits are already stressful enough; the last thing customers need is to be met with unnecessary hostility and unprofessionalism.

I recently had to go to the Modesto DMV, in person, to renew my license. I had to do this because I am 76 years old. I was a bit intimidated by what I was going to face. I had to return a couple of times but only because I wasn't fully prepared for the process. In short I was very impressed by the entire process. Making an appt was easy and my assigned times were honored. While it feels chaotic it is very well organized. I was most impressed by the attitude of every employee I personally dealt with. Very helpful and very supportive. To be honest I was positively surprised by my entire experience!

I had to go to DMV in person to renew my drivers license being over 70. The security guard directed me to the correct window which took no time at all and that lady gave me my number and told me to have a seat and watch for my number on the TV screen.
When my number was called, I was sent to Window number 9 to a lady named Heather . I had a couple special issues that she kindly listened to without an attitude and help me deal with that and then proceeded to help me renew my drivers license. It was such a pleasure to work with somebody that works for the government that was extremely friendly and guiding me through my issues with a smile on her face , she was so genuine. In my book she is a valued employee, thank you Heather for making my day.

Had a not so great wait but I was definitely impressed with how helpful and informative the man that helped us was. Not only did he help us with what we originally came for but he also was helpful with other vehicle records and advice on what to do with a car I have not been able to do anything with since 2019... Not to mention when we got up to the desk it was already 10 mins till 5:00. 😁I left as a very satisfied customer!!!
