Sending my wife's mom to Windhaven Senior Living was a tough decision a few months ago, but it has turned out to be a truly positive and wonderful experience for her. I think to highlight here: Windhaven's unique Spark program has made all the difference for her.

This facility is considered a premier Assisted Living and Memory Care property, and is relatively new, having been recently constructed. We've been pleasantly surprised that, after over four months, they have succeeded in creating a warm & family-like environment that met our expectations.

One remarkable aspect that my mother-in-law particularly appreciates is the Spark program. This program is all about providing seniors with real-life experiences. She absolutely loves the cooking classes, and they have been fantastic in keeping her engaged, both mentally and physically. Witnessing her happiness and her positive sense of community here warms our hearts. The staff here is exceptionally caring and deeply involved.

I'm sharing some photos here to offer you a glimpse of the facility (These photos were kindly sent to us after our initial tour, and I must emphasize that Windhaven values privacy highly, which is why we didn't take personal photos).

Overall, the staff's dedication to creating a welcoming environment for both the residents and their families is very present to us. We are very pleased with our choice so far, and Windhaven Senior Living appears to be the perfect fit for my mother-in-law. We would recommend this place.

My father is a fairly new resident here, since our initial conversation with the facility we have had nothing but a pleasant experience. Magnolia Frisco has delivered on every aspect of the service they offer. We tried assisted living where my father made friends with the residents and staff despite a language barrier, my father was no longer on a island alone, he found friends on this island. Unfortunately we quickly found out assisted living was not enough to ensure the best care for him, so we transitioned to memory care and the staff made it seamless. We hope that my father will be able to benefit from this facility for as long as possible. I encourage anyone looking for the best option (IMO) in the area to call, and tour this facility.
It will make a difficult decision and time substantially easier.

My 91 year old father has been residing at Windhaven since August 2022. We have been very pleased with the management and caretakers at the facility. On Monday, November 20, the facility held a Thanksgiving dinner for members of the family. It was a wonderful spread of food for residence and family members. The food was delicious.

From the moment I stepped foot into the main office on the premises, I knew this would be the perfect place for my mom. I had the pleasure of receiving an incredible and thorough tour from Ginger, who is a doll! She’ll take great care of you! Then again, so will anyone else.☺️
This property hit the head on the nail when combing the feelings of “comfort & home”, as well as functional, contemporary and modern...all at the same time! While walking around the premises I saw one of the chefs in Building A, core a WHOLE fresh pineapple and slice it up perfectly for a resident! As in beach vacation style! I was blown away. The caretakers are not what come to mind when you think of a Senior Living Facility. Each one of those ladies take pride in their job and treat their residents like their own family. It doesn’t even feel right calling it a “Senior Living Facility” because you feel as if you’re at an all inclusive resort! Literally cannot think of one negative about this place! I was not looking forward to finding a place for my momma, and I dreaded every Facility we had to walk through, on top of my obsession with cleanliness... you can only imagine what goes through my mind... I can tell you right now; if you don’t at least check this place out before you make your final decision on where to place your loved one(s)... you are going to regret your decision. 👌🏼

Where to begin on the HORRIFIC experience with my Dad at this facility.
My Dad passed away after complications from a catastrophic stroke that he had while at this facility. My Dad was of perfect mental health, only 65 and a very happy and charismatic person. He had been a paraplegic for 40 years but was recovering from a recent surgery while at Magnolia. I received a phone call from my Dad in the very late afternoon and immediately knew something was VERY wrong. He did not know who I was and was able to mutter the words "help me." I immediately called Magnolia and told them to get to my Dads room and call 911, that I believed he had suffered a stroke.
The person called me back and said that my Dad had already been back from the ER that same day. I was SHOCKED at this information. She said he had pulled out his G tube and they sent him to have it put back in and that the ER sent him back. I informed her that something was very very wrong mentally and that I had my Mom on the way there but they needed to call 911 and get him to an ER right away. She said something along the lines of "ya, he had altered mental state and it looks like the ER doctors put on his chart he has dementia... but that is strange because your Dad doesnt have dementia"
This is when I truly could not believe my ears!!! They all knew my Dad was a fully functioning person who laughed and joked and chatted with the staff and overnight woke up erratic, aggressive and did not know who anyone is and could not perform basic motor functions. They DIDNT tell the paramedics that he was mentally incapacitated and needed evaluation. They sent my paraplegic father who had actually suffered a SEVERE STROKE to the ER alone and never notified anyone and DID NOT have him sent for any evaluation. Only to receive help for the G tube he pulled out because of the severe confusion he was experiencing post-stroke.

Once my Mom, who has known my Dad for 50 years arrived, he had no idea who she was or even what his name was. Once we got him to the ER, they immediately began CT scans and full analysis because of the horrible condition he was in. My Dad passed away less than 2 months later. He went from the smartest man I knew to not knowing his own name, could not identify colors, did not remember being in a wheelchair for 40 years, etc...
When I went to Magnolia to gather some of his personal items, one of the aids came up to me and said "I knew immediately when I saw your Dad first thing that morning that it was really bad"
THEY FAILED TO HELP MY DAD IN HIS MOST VULNERABLE TIME OF NEED!!! Thank God he was able to use his phone and called me. They had left him completely alone in his room and no intentions of doing anything to help him. These people had no problem collecting their $6000 in rent even though his belongings were removed only a few days after the monthly billing. I have asked nicely many many times if there is any refund owed to us, and they have now ghosted me and the CEO sent me a text saying to not contact him again. Wow, I see you really care about people. I plan to let everyone know how horribly incompetent the workers at this facility truly are.

My mother has been living at Windhaven for the past two years and loves it. The facilities are first class, the staff is friendly and caring, the food is excellent, there is plenty of regularly scheduled activities and entertainment, and management is responsive and encourages feedback. When you drive up to the immaculately secured grounds conveniently located off El Dorado on Teel and walk in, you immediately sense that Windhaven is a hidden gem. This is where I want my Mom to live!

We pay $4600 a month for level 2 care and after 10 months they wanted my mom to pay an additional $2200 a month for a total of $6800 for NO MORE CARE! Her care needs did not increase, she walks with a walker, showers herself, changes her own diaper and clothes and gets herself to breakfast, lunch and dinner!! She is a nice, pleasant lady who all the caretakers adored. The price increase in just a short 10 months is ELDER ABUSE!! So wrong on so many levels so we moved her out!! Also she had no hot waters for weeks at a time which was very frustrating and unacceptable!! Please be aware of this when you search for a place for your loved one. Also the turnover in staff is constant but my mom had nothing but nice things to say about the staff!

A corporate representative told us our healthcare expectations were too high. We questioned because we do not use the Windhaven Nurse, we have 2 hospice nurses that come weekly, and we also have a hospice aide that comes 5 days a week to dress my mother, and make her bed. Twice a week this aide showers my mother and changes the sheets on the bed. My sister and I come 7 days a week, 6 plus hours a day. We get no discounts on the price for the care we bring and I asked that she please explain to me how our expectations were too high. Without giving an incident or reason, we were told that we needed to bring in a lift - equipment we had discussed before, restating the knowledge needed to safely operate, the lack of supervision of the Windhaven staff, and poor care we witness - we could not agree to this equipment. A few of the things we have witnessed:
Oxygen machine nose tubes: removed and dropped to the floor and just left
No aides in the building - memory care residents left alone, or we have been left alone in the building with residents
AC turned off by aide in moms room, when I walked in, already 85 degrees outside
So many items of clothing, bedding, towels/wash cloths lost
Aides ranting or rolling their eyes when we request assistance
Building that leak, landscaping that no longer looks like the web page
Dirty plastic gloves left on table next to bed after changing
Food served to memory care residents too hot to touch, aides not helping, or even noticing, residents shoes left on the table, feeding meals to residents that have sat out for hours
Aides watching inappropriate TV or on their phones not watching or engaging with residents
End of life medications lost or tossed - no paperwork provided
Hours where no one came into room to check on our mom when she was in bed

Each time the Director agreed to follow up and take action. Before we left, told Director, I did not understand what happened. At that time, she said it was my email to families, our expectations for care were not too high - our reason for being pushed out was that we let other resident's family know what we were seeing daily.

There are some very good staff members here and we do miss them, but they are few - if you are looking for consistent good care - it isn't here.
