I have been a volunteer working at the egret/heron rookery on 9th street in Santa Rosa. We have been trying to pick up the juveniles that fall from their nests and get run over by constant traffic. There is a pathetic broken down plastic fence around the tree base. Several of us have offered to help with a new fence and the local Audubon society refuses time and again.
We see birds flattened on the road daily for no apparent reason. It seems odd that Audubon Society should be indifferent to the suffering and death of so many birds.
