Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice was such a valuable part of my husband’s last week of life. Everyone we met clearly had the skills and caring approach to help him and me during challenging days. They provided personal assessments and support as well as equipment needed. The night my husband died the attending nurse was so helpful. She knew exactly what we had to do before and after the funeral home arrived. And even now after eight months, I receive newsletters and phone calls to support me. The people are angels at such difficult times. Many thanks.

What wonderful people! They helped us take great care of my grandma, and were so compassionate to all of us. I never knew hospice would be just what my grandma needed. I would give 10 stars!

Lake Superior Hospice cared for my mom in her last 6 months of life. She was 93 and very independent, and apprehensive to have people she didn’t know come see her. The nurses, aides, and social workers were all so kind and helpful she quickly looked forward to their visits. I can say that hospice truly enriched her life. What a great team!❤️

Horrible. Incompetent. Although I use to feel that hospice was a reasonable choice for people at the end of their lives, this experience completely changed my viewpoint. Indeed, I even taught hospice care to nursing students in a positive light. I now regret that. I regret that my mother experienced this emotionally traumatizing end of her life.
I waited after the death of my mother to see if my opinion would change about this company. First and foremost I do not recommend them. Their medical team should have been certified in hospice; palliative care. They weren't. Once certified it should clearly/publicly be posted. Having general experience or a desire is not enough. It is a specialty area and evolving. Hospice in general has become a money making business...proceed carefully.
Along with my mother's physical needs, they didn't address her emotional or spiritual needs (other than heavily medicating her...to the point she couldn't voice her needs, thoughts or fears). She had slight problems with her memory when they first began visits...but treated her like she was mentally incompetent. She picked up on that. AND they immediately started her on a drug: Haldol, around the clock, that completely knocked her out. Guess that made her easier to handle? Disgusting. The focus was on communicating with certain family members...but communication with her was lacking and sometimes even demoralizing in terms of what was said; how it was said in her presence.
A couple members of their team became confrontational as I was sharing concerns about her care, and one actually started yelling at me over the phone that my mother was dying. Like I didn't know? It was strange and insensitive. Bottom line: Give people the peace of mind knowing the medical expertise, current research and practice is in place by staff becoming trained and certified in hospice and palliative care.
On the positive side, which is quite limited, visits were made frequently and some of the staff...such as the aide and some nurses presented themselves in a caring manner. If I was the one dying and in such a vulnerable and dependent state I'd want empathy, expertise and respect from ALL the team members.

The Staff here are wonderful. The work they do and the care they provide are amazing. They encourage, support and comfort their patients and families during the most difficult times. I will always be grateful for their help.
