I was involved in an auto accident right off the off-ramp to Burlington. Totaled the car, but only suffered a bruised hand. There was another accident at the top of the off ramp, and a state trooper was there. Walked up the off ramp to the state trooper, who took my information and then put me in an ambulance that was right there as well, even though I had stated I wasn't injured.

The Kit Carson County Ambulance took me to the hospital which was only 1 mile away. Hospital checked me out - sure enough, no injuries - I could have walked to the hospital, but when a trooper puts you in the ambulance, who are you to argue?

This ambulance service does not have agreements with my insurance (and I am guessing it doesn't have them with many insurance companies), and I found out why - they can make SO MUCH MORE money by not entering into agreements. My insurance paid them $300 for the 1 mile ride, and then ambulance company billed me an additional $1,700.

I put in an appeal with my insurance, and a second appeal, but they said that since there was no agreement with the ambulance company, there was no recourse. My auto insurance wouldn't pay any medical since the accident was deemed my fault (I slid off the off ramp because the snow had not been plowed - my car had 6" of clearance, and there was more snow that that on the off ramp - highways had been plowed, but they hadn't gotten around to the off ramps.) So I was stuck with the bill.

Buyer beware here - although the service was great, they will stick you for the premium service. If you really do not need them, call an Uber.
