Spectacular and free! Why spend boku bucks in Chicago to visit a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece when you can go to Racine and visit two for free.
You do have to reserve this tour but it is 100% free. You will learn about Wright and his scandalous lifestyle and how he burns bridges with people because of his ego. This place is a must see if you are here in the Midwest.

Originally a home for members of the Johnson Family. Loved the tour and video. Amanda was excellent. Wonderful design elements, typical stories of poor building performance. Vertical fireplace? Trying to imagine being a kid and living here ...?

A great bite-size Frank Lloyd Wright architecture tour for those visiting the area! Every time I bring out of town friends and family to this campus it’s always a treat. Not to mention that it’s free and open year round to the public!

This mainly self-guided tour includes a talk about the history of H.F. Johnson family and their time at the home, as well as a video with his son Sam and daughter Karen. After that, you're free to roam the better part of the house and a portion of the grounds on your own, which in my admittedly limited experience of FLW buildings is unique. Reservations are required, but well worth it. Be sure to see the SC Johnson office and research tower as well if possible. I loved it!

This is well worth making the required reservation and a special trip!

It is the largest (14,000 square feet!) and the last of the Prairie-Style houses by Frank Lloyd Wright. It has all the touches you expect: low entranceways opening dramatically into soaring rooms, vast amounts of glass, wood, and stone, unique surprises including the "hidden music system," the disappearing dining room table, the spiral staircase to the children's lookout tower, hundreds of hidden lights, gorgeous indoor/outdoor sight lines in all directions, ingenious moving sunlight effects, gardens, pool, patios, and much more.

Unlike some Wright-home tours, here they actually let you sit around the fireplace and interact with the house. For fans of Wright, or architecture, or history, this is a must-see! Thank you to the Johnson Foundation for providing these tours!
