I love the history and the idea of where Jessie's place is coming from. I love the staff and the chef is an amazing loving caring woman who really goes beyond for the clients' needs. Even though I love Jessie's place it was a very hard stay for myself and my children. I saw A LOT of unfair and very hurtful things go on. I pray things are getting better there, but as I was leaving rules were getting very hard to meet. In December we had a beautiful Christmas but almost everything the women got, ended up giving it right back cause of the rules! Why give them stuff to take it away! I understand rules and guidelines are a must in a facility, but it was definitely a life changing and challenging process that I do not regret! Forever grateful for the people at Jessie's place!

I will unfortunately never donate to this organization again. My wife and I do a clothes drive every couple of years and we bring them to this location as well as the men's affiliate. On Monday January the 1st we loaded up our truck, and I mean loaded and took the clothes and etc. to be delivered. Dropped off the men's stuff, super nice and appreciative older gentlemen helped us unload. We had taken our five year old grandson with us which he had bagged up about five bags of toys and was so excited to be helping someone in need. When we arrived at Jessie's Place we knocked and no answer, so we proceeded to unload by the front doors. After unloading an older lady came out and said... can you not read this sign. The sign stated they were not taking donations at this time, only toiletries. She said you can't leave this stuff and to load it back up and take it with us. I attempted to explain to her we donate here all the time and that we drove 45 minutes away to be here. She didn't care and made it very clear she didn't care. My wife told her she was breaking our grandsons heart and said she was being rude and said... what was your name again. And the lady replies...I didn't! We loaded back up and took everything somewhere else. We later found out there was another women's shelter close and she didn't even offer that information to us or we would have taken it there. Never again for us. So sad she didn't even offer the women and children the opportunity to go through the donations.

Jessie's place is a good place to go for help if you really need it for your family. You must be very humble and ready for change. The place is very clean and they feed you and your family very well. The workers are nice, and will help you if you allow them to. Thank you Jessie's place for giving me and my children a fighting chance and start in Birmingham.

I recently transitioned from Jessie's Place to my own housing. My babies and I lived there close to a year and a half, and I will say, Jessie's Place was the foundation I needed to get back on my feet. Anything I needed, was provided. No shelter, or staff is perfect..just like no client is perfect either. If you follow the guidelines that are set for you, you will succeed in the program. This is not an "emergency" stay shelter, and there are many variables that go into choosing clients that will or will not fit the program, but I would highly recommend anyone needing help, to call Jessie's Place or go online and fill out their intake form.😊😊😊

This place is a disgrace, they care nothing about the homeless families that needs help. I referred a family here for emergency stay and was put in a bad situation for even doing so for giving Jessie place a good reputation. I was told the family needed to find another shelter because the intake lady suggested a lesser restricted shelter. How can you advise someone to stay somewhere that's less restricted and haven't even gave them a chance to stay. You see they in need of shelter. The supervisor Grace is a horrible supervisor that doesn't even solved issues, she just goes with whatever answer that's given instead of finding what's best for the family. There attitudes are horrible, they shouldn't work in this type of business. You have to have A caring heart to work with families in need and they are NOT the caring facility. I spoke to Mr. Cooper the head person and even he was rude and not even concerned about the issue. He told me there's two sides to each story as if he was taking up for his employees, when is there ever two sides when it comes down to the CUSTOMERS OR CLIENTS NEEDS ? I wouldn't advise anyone to do anything for this shelter, there just receiving government and sponsor funding not caring about what's really important and that's to seek and help woman and children's that's in need. && I only gave them a star because I had to in order to post , but they are a 0 , the family said they are worst then the SALVATION ARMY.

Absolutely do not support this place. The workers here for the most part obviously hate their job. They spend most of their time on their phones than they do even looking at the clients. The only interactions I had with workers were disciplinary. They care more about you being on time to their crappy bible studies than actually getting to know you. They never listen to a word I say. I do not respect anyone there with maybe three exceptions. They force you to buy food for everyone then won’t let you touch it. There’s tons of food in the kitchen but they are so so lazy that they only set out sandwich stuff for us every single day while the food we paid for sits rotting in the fridge. They even set out spoiled food for us to eat and nothing healthy. My son hadn’t hardly eaten anything nutritious while we were ther These people are disgraceful and I do not respect them at all.

I went there because I had a mother and child that needed shelter upon arrival the lady met us at the door didn't offer us to come in told us to complete an assignment on line and someone will contact us not welcoming at all not really knowing how to explain it but when you are in need being turned around really gives people no hope but I went around the corner and was welcomed right in she completed her assessment and was housed the same day.
