St John the Baptist food bank is amazing and the people that volunteer here are incredibly compassionate and helpful. They assist me with my dietary restrictions every time I come in. So thankful and grateful for this subsidy.

HOPE has been an amazing resource for me and my son. They have never turned me away for a meal, and have been kind, patient, and understanding; even when I haven’t been the easiest to work with. I always felt safe when I stayed in the shelter, and always saw other clients treated with respect. Laura in particular has gone above and beyond in helping me get the resources I needed to get into our very own home. She’s been a blessing to work with and very attentive!

I will not suggest that this reflects on the entire organization, but on Safelots, specifically. They publicly claim that they help everyone, but when you apply, they reveal hidden requirements which, since they never published them, they could have easily made them up on the spot to discriminate against you. Further, if they are collecting money on the basis of advertised inclusiveness, then it is surely some kind of fraud to not follow through on the product or policy which was showcased to donors to solicit their money. Furthermore, when you try to call back for clarification as to what happened, they will refuse to answer your phone or voicemails. That is evasive, it smacks of dishonesty, and further, if they know that I am homeless they are letting me sit in a holding pattern thinking that I am going to get a reply when they have no intention of helping. Being callous, disrespectful, evasive, and lacking the will to help is a much deeper and more dishonest problem than merely lacking the resources. That's not the problem. The problem is that they do not follow through on what they say, and they demonstrably lack the will to be helpful. One could argue that they are harmful by letting you sit and wait for help that isn't coming.

There is another Google review that confirms they leave you out in the cold and tell you to go camp at Walmart, and another review from a former employee who says they have internal problems at their organization. I would say that is obvious, and I wonder how many of those problems rise to the level of financial crimes involving the misuse of money since they lie about what they use it for, they conceal what they are doing, and then refuse to cooperate or show decency to their clients.

They bailed me out of trouble, more than a few times. good place to get sober, wear earplugs, they boot you at 7 am. Work a full time job, and things are fine. This Covid thing is annoying; and, extremely dangerous. We must move forward not backwards. Showers, Laundry, Food (if you need it), water, toilet (might have to wait). It sucks but it is there. If you need a place to crash its there.

HOPE is a great place. The people that I have met all the way back to when Stacey was in charge ( I have been on the street for too long to many times ) but HOPE and it's volunteers are always there. If you're in need they are always glad to help.
