We have had a family membership at Genesis for the last couple of years. Our experience has been fine.

They offer a few classes, the pool area is fun in the summer, and the Prospect location has a bar, so pretty much all the bells and whistles we are looking for.

We try to ignore the constant and seemingly never-ending construction because we are hopeful it improves the club, and the amenities offered to the members.

Today I had such an unprofessional encounter with a young man, Tyler, at the front desk, that we will likely cancel our membership, and return to our former gym, Crunch, which is MUCH MUCH cheaper, has classes that are more fun, and a kind/friendly team.

Anyway, back to the check-in experience with Employee of the Month...

My son has only utilized the KidsClub on one prior occasion, so we are a little unsure how to get him checked in.

It seems like only one person (or computer perhaps) can check in the Kids Club, after waiting several minutes for Tyler to get off of the phone, he pretty rudely asked what I needed. To which I responded, I needed to check our son into KidClub. He scanned my membership card (which I have had for 2 years) and tells me that we do not have a credit card in file to charge for KidsClub, which I let him know is inaccurate.

He very very very unprofessionally raises his voice and tells me "You DON'T HAVE a card on file! You'll have to call and talk to member services."

At this point I am late for my class, but I ask him if he can pull up our account manually, to which he pulls up the wrong account. I know this because he flips the computer screen around so aggressively, he almost knocks it off the stand, and I can see an account pulled up, that's not our name.

At this time inform him that it is not the correct account. He then informs me that there is nothing else he can do and just stares at me like he's going to jump over the counter and punch me in the face.

I guess it was some sort of a scare tactic to get me to leave?

I then asked to speak with a manager and he tells me, "they don't have a manager." After clarifying whether that means today, or ever, he did say their manager's name is Dakota but unavailable.

I ask to talk to a different team member.

100% turn around.

The girl is nice, professional, and isn't looking to get into a fist fight, mid shift, with a middle-aged mom.

She asks for my phone number, immediately pulls up the correct account, and charges KidsClub to the card we have (for 2 years) had on file. She then checks the card Tyler originally scanned, that he threw on the floor in a fit of rage, and pulls up the correct account. The entire encounter took 90 seconds, and was handled perfectly.

Why was the first encounter so miserable? Why was it so complicated? And most importantly, why was it so aggresive?

Tyler is unprofessional, rude, lazy, agressive, and comes across as, quite honestly, unhinged.

Tyler needs extensive training on his current job duties, customer service, and de-eclscalation. But more importantly, likely requires anger management on a professional level. Or maybe he just need to dial back the 'roids.

Either way, he is a liability. And what happened today should have NEVER happened.

Due to negativity bias in reviews, I felt like I needed to write a positive one for other members of the fitness community here in Fort Collins. I almost did not evaluate Miramont South due to some of the recent reviews here on Google. I go to the gym regularly, but my current location has just shuttered their doors forcing another reevaluation of a gym home. My wife was a member in the past at Miramont South, and I I would also occasionally work out there with her. The negative reviews are correct in that there is a lot of remodeling and construction in progress. However the manager Michael Smith brought me throughout the facility and showed me the plans being implemented, explained the timelines and shared the vision for this facility. Having been involved with remodeling myself, it can be a frustrating process. However, what is being implemented at Miramont South looks like it will present itself as the best quality fitness center in Fort Collins, setting the bar above well above the other corporate options. Regardless of past experiences here, at least the current ownership is investing extensively in the site. The improvements are significant owing to the extent of the remodel in progress even with the inconvenience they present. Genesis' other two locations are available as backup alternatives for when you prefer to make that tradeoff. From what I was shown by Michael today, I think the only reason to consider another option is price or to temporarily wait out the remodeling that is in progress.

Equipment and facilities maintenance has declined severely over the past two years. Less than half of the cardio machines even work and literally all of them are in some form of disrepair. Men’s locker room and showers are a perpetual mess to the point of unsafe. Constant lack of hot water and broken showers. Nothing is ever fixed and this gym costs over twice as much as most others in town. I’ve voiced my concerns to management for years. They continue to use ā€œrenovationā€ as an excuse, but absolutely nothing is being maintained in the meantime. I’ve been a member for over six years and made a point to support this gym through the pandemic. They were completely disinterested and unconcerned about my recent membership cancellation. Sad, this gym used to be worth the higher membership fees, but not anymore. I regret not canceling sooner.

See pictures for what $150 a month for the last 4 years has gotten me. Some of those soap stains have been there since COVID days. Avoid this place. Hot water supply is unreliable and steam room never works. They excuse it away by saying that they are renewing and rebuilding everything....in the meantime, customers still pay the same for sub par "lifestyle fitness". This review is being posted as a last resort, after numerous complaints to management, managers on duty, staff on duty, and membership personnel.

I do not post reviews, and that is readily apparent. But at this point I really don’t know what to do because this gym has become sub standard and in disrepair. This gym used to be great, but now is an utter disappointment. Calling Miramont South a club in its current state is disingenuous.

The excuse I have heard repeatedly after bringing these issues up is ā€œwe are in a state of constructionā€. That doesn’t address any of the issues that myself or other members have raised though. Especially in terms of safety and hygiene.

At this point the perception is that Miramont South has prioritized building tennis courts and remodeling staff space over basic safety, hygiene, and serviceable equipment.

Here’s a small list of the things that are persistent issues. I would attach pictures but given the fact that multiple other people have posted pictures corroborating these issues, or said something similar it seems a moot point(Also, basic privacy and common sense dictate not filming or taking pictures in a locker room).

-The men’s locker room and hallways are a fall hazard with little to no slip protection. The gym has a significant geriatric demographic that has a significant fall risk. This could easily be addressed.

-The hallway from the men’s locker room leading to the pool consistently has tepid or cold standing water due to poor drainage whether it’s 530 in the morning or 9 at night.

-Multiple weight machines are regularly broken with pins that don’t match the machine and begin to dislodge during lifting. There are other machines with cables and handles that either get caught, are broken, or have sharp edges. In several cases they have remained like that for weeks at a time after reporting it to gym staff( just put a broken sign on it)

- A good portion of machines and cardio equipment are outdated, and frankly in low quantity

-The floors are dirty in the gym, as well as the locker room. Additionally the men’s bathroom floors rarely do not have some quantity of urine pooled under the urinals

- The showers, and tiles of the showers plus steam room have oxidation and rust residue present throughout. Not to mention the soap stains or hair on the walls and floors on a semi regular basis

-The bathing suit dryer in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms (word of mouth on the women’s locker room from my wife) already had regular downtimes but now have just been ripped off the walls with a gross residue left behind

-the showers are outdated with no drainage trough, and rather a gravity system that runs all of the water into a single stall in both shower aisles. At least one shower head doesn’t get hot water, another has a leak at the faucet handle that sprays cold water out of it, and there are regularly broken or empty soap dispensers(even right at opening). On top of that the shower heads are old with leaks, poor water pressure, or have clogs in the sprayers

-HVAC vents and fans are disgusting with dust and grime building

-I can’t recall a time that the steam room consistently worked

-The hot tub functionality is hit or miss. On several occasions there have been bandaids floating or sitting on the edge or the hot tub as well

-The sauna wood, as well as the door are falling apart, and the thermostat has completely fallen off at this point

-Lockers are in disrepair with loose or overly tight combo wheels, and at least one locker door is just ripped off the cabinet for inexplicable reasons

-Towel stock is inconsistent in the locker rooms. On multiple occasions staff have placed towels out for use that appear to have fecal matter stains.

Small edit- the used towel bins are persistently full and overflowing

There’s plenty I haven’t said, or just haven’t seen I’m sure but I think this is demonstrative enough of the poor quality experience this gym now provides to its members.

I truly hope this location can redeem itself because at this point it’s a complete mess. I would recommend Genesis members with multi gym passes to go elsewhere until Genesis addresses basic concerns like the ones I and others have listed.

This place used to be a good place to have a gym membership, but since the never-ending construction started over a year ago, numerous machines are in need of repair, pools closed constantly, steam room off all the time and more. Paying way too much for this center during the ā€œconstruction phaseā€ - feel like there should be a discount in order since everything just sits until the construction, one day, is done.

Patron beware. Was not happy with the condition of the facilities nor the poor housekeeping. Tried to end my membership and the staff delayed the termination as long as possible - citing in highlighter all of the extra fees I was to pay. Thought they might be understanding to a US veteran, I was wrong.

I’ve been a member at this facility since the year 2000. I’ve seen it go from a privately owned company to much larger company with locations in other states outside of Colorado. Since that transition, I’ve seen the overall quality of the club go down specifically to the cleanliness of the locker rooms, bathrooms, sauna, hot tub, steam room, etc.…. The cardio area is really really good with lots of tread mills, stationary bikes, stair, climbers, etc…and set up well. The weight room has basically everything one would need to lift weights. However, it is smaller than the north location and the machines are placed very close to one another. There is a lower area which used to be a full length basketball court. Half of the basketball court has been transitioned into a turf area with squat, racks pull up bars, multipurpose apparatus, kettle, bells, dumbbells, etc… the other half of the basketball court remains a basketball court half court that would be with a third basket. I don’t use the tennis facilities. However, those who I know who played tennis are very impressed with the overall tennis facility and how tennis is run at this club. There is also an outdoor pool with lifeguards. Food and beverages are available as well. Overall, this is a great club on the south end of town whether you are a student or a family with children who would take advantage of all of the facilities. I’ve been a member for 24 years and I’ll keep going when I’m on that side of town.
