Some ten years ago, I was looking for a church that follows a Christian path while holding respect for other paths and found United Church of Christ. We started coming occasionally and enjoyed the thoughtful sermons, the beauty and artistry of the sanctuary and the warmth of the congregants. But what really clinched it for me is that my daughter, then about 4 years old, starting asking when we could go back to church again. There was a feeling and a spirit there that really attracted her, and we saw that as a very good sign. This has become a wonderful spiritual home for our whole family.

The First Congregational Church of Alameda (FCCA) is a congregation where God truly is still speaking. They achieve what seems elusive to so many other churches: a vibrant, innovative, yet respectful, balance of deeply traditional Congregational roots and dynamic contemporary theology. The result is warm welcoming worship that's well crafted, fresh and authentic.

Their life giving use of new worship arts, beyond just great music, all rise out of the morning's worship theme, such as: well choreographed liturgical dance; deeply theologically biblio-drama; visual artists create altars and other elements of the sacred space; evocative bulletin covers made in house; and technology and digital media, when used, successfully avoid the contemporary trap of using clip art to make easy, sentimental Christian scenes.

The congregation is truly kind & welcoming and their work in social justice is progressive and exemplary. And their children's program::: they've got more children than they can fit on the chancel stairs ! Also I hear, a great supportive question-embracing youth program...

These examples must be just part of why FCCA is a growing & exciting story of Love Embodied in the East Bay.

This is a beautiful old church that balances the traditions of their colonial roots with thoughtful, contemporary relevance to worship in the 21st century. This multi-generational congregation welcomes all and offers much to families, couples and singles without regard to race, gender or sexual orientation.
