Wow...this is the BEST, most Professional Horse Rescue I have ever been too! Clean, well taken care of horses, and the volunteers are AMAZING! Colleen, Jaqui and all the other volunteers were dedicated to finding me EXACTLY what I was looking for....TAHOE! We are SO blessed to be allowed to offer him his FOREVER home!

Very very disappointed in Jackie(the owner) and the hole organizations.
When I was going through a terrible divorce, I contacted them to inform them I needed to return a horse I had adopted from them. I also asked if they would take another horse because he was my baby. He was a nervous horse I got from the kill pen, nursed back to health and spent a lot in training on him. I thought this was the best decision I could make.
Immediately after getting him, they quickly blocked me from their Facebook page. Leaving me in the dark about my beloved horse. Multiple people reached out in regards to adopting him and what was told to them was appalling. Apparently I was a careless, negligent, incompetent owner who destroyed this horses life and made him virtually unadoptable. People were told this horse came to the rescue malnourished and needing major vet work. I couldn't even believe what I heard. I was up front and honest about everything with this horse. His feet were done right before he left my place, dentistry done by Nathan Goddard in the spring, and was on free choice hay. I have pictures of him and everything. Both horses left my care in impeccable condition. Not only that, they lied to potential adopters. I informed Jackie he was a forward horse and would get fresh, especially if his ulcers were flaring up(oh yeah he was prone to ulcers which they were aware). They were not informing people of the possible behavior problems(which by the way was why I decided to send him to an rescue and NOT the sale).
When he was finally adopted, a friend sent me a screenshot of the post. On a few Facebook pages, I posted an ISO add looking for his new owners to ask if we could stay in touch. Jackie reached out to me snarling at the fact I made these post and asking what my problem was. Never once did she address the fact I was blocked on the page. Nor did she uphold her end of the agreement she made(a gentleman's agreement) that she would keep me updated. The woman btw who adopted my sweet boy was very nice and happy to share updates with me.
TO THIS DAY, I am still blocked on their Facebook page. For absolutely no reason. I was and still am in total shock. I HIGHLY suggest, if you are looking to surrender your horse or need help, consider a multitude of other rescues, private homes, hell, even the auction, before sending a horse here.
I did everything right with this rescue regarding the horse I adopted from them, advertising horses they listed, referring friends to adopt, donating $ and still got treated poorly from the owner. Negative stars!!!

Very responsive and very knowledgeable. They have done a great job of trying place the right horse for my family. It is a beautiful facility and the horses seem very well cared for.
I'm not sure they do as much training with the horses as other groups. Very well could just be the few horses we were looking at hadn't had a chance to go through much training, but that would be the only downside. I think this is a well-organized, caring group doing a good job at the police horses appropriately.

I have a dual relationship with Drifter's...volunteer and adopter. I love being a volunteer and helping to find forever homes for such deserving animals. And I love being the person who provides a forever home for three DHOH horses. Drifter's takes excellent care of the horses they rescue and is diligent in its efforts to assure that the horse and people adopting the horse are a good match. It is heartwarming to see the changes that happen when horses are rescued from bad situations and then find themselves in a place with good food and loving care. Their whole demeanor/attitude is improved. The Annie Project prevents retired dude ranch horses from going to the auction with its risky outcomes and puts them in loving homes instead.

An amazing organization that is dedicated to finding the best home for each and every horse. The dedication of everyone here is incredible. We have now adopted six equines from DHOH and could not be happier with the process, the continued support from them and each equine is the perfect fit for our family.

We hope strongly that all of the beautiful horses at this facility find great homes, with no thanks to the staff at Drifters.

My wife had a wonderful relationship with one of the horses she found out was given to Drifters, and with zero knowledge of how the adoption process works, and with no price on her good friend, we offered money for him. This was denied with a cost way higher than expected. After then accepting the price for this horse, the staff then casually denied us the opportunity to adopt. After this, my wife was beyond upset. She was so sad to think she wouldn’t be able to get her good friend, and took the chance to talk to the staff once again and apologized for trying to get him at a lower price. This was taken well, so we thought... only to receive news that this horse was given to another home already. Distraught, and led on for over a week, my wife began to move on. But Monday came after a long weekend and we checked Drifter’s website only to find that the horse we were trying to adopt was now on their website, trying to be adopted! Which to us seemed absolutely absurd and backwards. Why would a “loving adoption facility” who believes in finding great homes for their horses deny the opportunity to adopt a horse? Shouldn’t their intention be to give the horses to the best, most loving homes? And not only did they deny us, they then lied to us about the horse we wished to have become part of our family.

We feel that if they actually cared about the horses well being, they’d be so absolutely excited to have someone like our family who was more than thrilled to have this horse. Any adoption center should pray to have people like us to adopt from them.

We have a fabulous home with two other geldings and the cost of owning a horse is no surprise. We would have given him the best home imaginable.

So, proceed Drifters with caution knowing our story, know that the staff have a big ego and have no intention of giving the horses to a good loving home. They are in it for whatever best suits them.

We are so so disappointed that egos got in the way just because we have never adopted and didnt know you'd be so offended that we tried to get him cheper, and still after agreeing to pay the price after trying to negotiate, willing to show bank statements what ever it took, and all they simply told us no we found another home for him. We were agreed on a price over the phone was told we can get him, then suddenly told he was In another home when he was not and is still available for adoption. It's just seems so absurd when we have a great home for him isn't that the purpose of this foundation? So so disappointed with our experience trying to adopt a horse that needs a home.

Drifters has a beautiful facility, friendly staff, and horses that are clearly well cared for. The volunteers and staff here are noticeably passionate about the care and proper placement of these rescue horses. If you are a future adopter, look no further. They are more than willing to help you find a perfect fit.
