2025 Believe the reviews. Waste of time. I was referred to as a "client" by an "advocate" who told me to refrain from sharing pertinent information as he would handle it. Only to hold a meeting with the agency alone. He returned with questions from the agency despite evidence given to him beforehand showing the agency acknowledged already receiving the data.

LP, Here it is,2024 & everyone in the reviews are telling the truth about DRNY. It's A damn shame. These government programs are supposed to help the American citizens. The only thing that they do is collect a pay check. I live in NYC & every agency that's say's they're advocating for the disabled, does absolutely the opposite. I consulted DRNY because SS is taking an over payment out of my monthly payments. ALL DRNY did was denied that they can help me & referred me to other places for disability advocacy. People running around saying they are afraid of 2025 proposal. As far as I'm concerned, these government, City, & State agencies don't work for the citizens of America anyway. So big deal if they close them down. If people working in these programs did their jobs, there wouldn't be anyone homeless, jobless, without medical insurance, etc. Be they disabled or not.

In 2022, DRNY received 8,041,306 in government grants. Their reported functional expenses from the same year, 8,295,845. Total support 2017-2021, 39,711,934.
They may be understaffed but the staff gets paid well for doing negligible work that translates to actual change. People advocating for their loved ones, who need support,,this is not the place to seek help, but try if you are at the end of hope. If by chance they do return your phone call, if they do anything tangible, it will be a cold day in hell and by then you would have exhausted EVERY other option and come up short. My contact was a pleasant experience but of no real consequence.My mothers money was seized by the state run facility she is housed in.They charged her for back rent when there was none. Sadly, too many nonprofits end up with well paid ED's that get cozy doing the very minimum and lawyers that feel like they are all-too-busy Gods helping the poor, indigent and disabled when they could easily work in private, soulless firms without the street cred.

They were helping in the beginning of my situation with sending a letter for me to a company, to try and get the company to do a certain accommodation for a disabled person, but the company didn't. When I called back disability rights and told them the company is not cooperating, they didn't help me any further to get a solution. They closed my complaint and gave me referrals to legal agencies in Suffolk County. One of them is Nassau Suffolk law services. They do not help people with disabilities, or disabled tenants. DRNY will not help disabled people or go to court for a disabled person and their agency is useless. They just write you letters confirming you contacted them and give referrals. They don't advocate for the disabled person either medically or with housing, employment, etc. I have found no advocate agency that helps people with disabilities in Suffolk County. Office of Handicapped Services does not help me and I keep being advised to call them.

Just another useless agency that does nothing to protect the voiceless. They've got job security regardless of whether or not they are actually competent, so why should they care? If the people I wanted to protect acquire a serious illness and die, at least I can say that I tried to help; which is more than can be said about this agency.

These people are useless! They advocate for no one! They pass the buck, tell you contact your local bar association and file a complaint with the Justice department, are you kidding me? My 2 severely autistic sons were in a car, being taken to unsafe places, not offered any food or drink for over 2 1/2 hours in a car, then he was denied water because he wouldn't drink the juice that they know he won't drink? Thats not good enough for you to defend? You are all useless! So much for getting someone to defend the disabled! I hope u go out of business!

This organization saved my life. They're helping me fight an abusive guardianship and giving me a reason to have hope. I'm so grateful.

Edit (3/29/2022): With their help, I successfully terminated the abusive guardianship 🙂 forever grateful.

Help being singled out the okes apparently has not read the constitution and the new law about disability j pay all my bills I was hit by a car and it’s killing me and my doctor telling me to do pot I can’t even afford it so nothing is happening so sorry but time to go
