We were so very proud - Our daughter was awarded money for a scholarship. Although she followed all their "rules" of saving money by renting an apartment, living off campus, buying her own food, etc. all in order to save money, they would not allow her to use any of the scholarship money allotted to her. She now has student loans and has taken time off from college, again, to work and save up to complete her degree.
After numerous phone calls, conversations with Community Foundation and her college, emails, etc. she still was never able to use the money.
So scholarship applicants and philanthropists beware.
Final thought & suggestion - something should be taught in their "classes" to say that if you accept their scholarship you must spend more money for dorms, food, books, etc. in order to even use it.
