I called this morning after trying to get my furnace to kick on last night (it was pretty chilly) needless to say it didn't work. I called to see about getting assistance with fixing my furnace or get a new one. The CAC was going to put us on a waiting list which is understandable, however what isn't understandable is they refuse to provide assistance unless we have lived in our home for 12 months which we haven't. We have lived in the home for approx. 8 months.
How does the amount of time someone has lived in the home matter? 6 months or 6 years, they are still just as cold regardless of the amount of time they have lived there. We will have to purchase electric heaters and such to keep our toddler children from freezing.
This really blows my mind. Shame on them.
I'm posting this so others know about the 12 month rule... 12 months or you have to freeze it out. I hope others are at least able to get heaters to hold them over.

It will be sad when the school year ends which is Friday 5-10-19 😔 but my son has came along way since the beginning of the school year and ImI so glad he had some great teachers! Next year he will off to kindergarten a whole new ball game I hope his teachers are as nice as the ones he had this past year! Thank you so much!

Community Action Commission (CAC) of Belmont County did work on our house in 2017 when we participated in the Weatherization program. Our house almost had no insulation in the exterior walls and the walls weren’t capped. All of the warm air went straight up to the roof and cool air was trapped down in the basement. CAC capped the walls, added attic vents, and pumped blown insulation everywhere that needed it. They also moved our hot water tank out of our laundry room and into the attached garage because the tank was at risk of back drafting which could have caused a fire. They also fixed a small pinhole gas leak in a pipe leading to the furnace. We had no idea there were problems. We had just bought the house a year before, and the home inspector didn’t say anything about those issues. CAC also gave us energy efficient lightbulbs before they left. Our house is much easier to heat and cool now that it’s properly insulated. On a 75° day the upstairs would get to 85°, before that work was done. Now the lower part of the house can be set at 70° and the upstairs is 72°. Things are much more comfortable, including our energy bills.

The HEAP program is a great asset to those in need in our community. If you are on a fixed income and can’t afford to pay your heating costs check the HEAP program out they may be able to help you with gas and/or electric bill.
