I first heard of the Common Sense institute in Cedar Rapids, Iowa - where they'd recently gained a presence. Their president, Kristin Strohm spoke at the Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance's Annual Meeting in January 2024. I heard her claims of non-partisan and immediately started researching from my seat at the event. My research was stymied when Strohm introduced the Keynote Speaker, Iowa's Republican Governor Kim Reynolds, exclaiming that she was Reynold's "Biggest Fan".

What a slap in the face, and insult to the attendees intelligence. Nothing after that comment of hers mattered to me.

Westword did a nice piece on the Common Sense Insitute's "non-partisan" status, written by Conor McCormick-Cavanagh in February 2022. Just search "Common Sense Institute Reviews" and it should be the first result.

CSI wrote a piece titled in part "Crime Tsunami: New Study....." that has had holes punched in it;

"This report wouldn't meet the research standards of a freshman term paper" said the Director of the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition"

".... the organizations (CSI) research is driven ideologically toward a certain conclusion, then works backward for the desired result" - Conor McCormick-Cavanagh

Interestingly enough, they (legally) declined to disclose their donors.

Just her statement of support for any specific politician should have been grounds to remove their non-profit 501C status, in my opinion.

Lacking common sense. Exploitation of the commons never ends well. Narrow-minded analyses of complex issues, with O&G assessments excluding environmental externalities (noise, roads, water use / waste water processing, air pollution), abandoned wellhead mediation (15k+ uncapped abandoned wellheads in Colorado), groundwater / aquifer contamination, etc. Objectivity not exactly in the realm of possibilities with a council comprised of realtors, cheese moguls, bankers, and trust fund children. Sorry that last one crossed the line, but it’s tiring to see yet another “common sense” economic analysis excluding anything not boldfaced in a typical 10k. Unfortunately, politicians who “invest” other people’s property will glom onto these “nonpartisan” reports that shout out dollars and ignore the fine (and missing) print, that past performance is no indicator of future, that most drillers go bankrupt, their escrow accounts too minuscule to cover any restoration, leaving messes the rest of us will be perpetually paying to clean up. IMHO.

I looked up this website to find out what type of group is paying for negative ads against Prop HH. Now I know they are a "conservative," basically, the Republican group. 👎
