We were directed by the Nextdoor app to the Columbus Urban League as a resource for my teenage son to find a summer job that could potentially continue into his senior year of high school. My son was directed to send an email with all his information including what exact he was looking for in a job and his experience. A virtual appointment was set us for a week later and when he met online the woman assumed he was an adult looking for a full time job.

He explained he was a 16 year old student looking for help finding a summer job or possible internship. He did not have any experience and needed help getting started. She said she couldn’t help but would forward his information to the correct individual.

A week later my son received an email from a gentleman explaining he had been given the information for my son and sent a form for my son to fill out. The form was for companies interested in hiring teens for internships.

Three weeks, two professionals and multiple emails sent by my son which CUL directed him to “fully explain so they knew how they could help him before they contacted him” only to be ignored and passed around.

Does the CUL only work with black teens? When the first woman met my son on Zoom and realized he was a white teenager in need of direction why didn’t she just explain they did not plan on helping him? Why lie and make him wait an entire week for a bogus email from another incompetent person who couldn’t just tell him they don’t serve white teens?

SHAME ON YOU CUL. Racism is two way street.

The security guard that was inside the building was extremely rude. It’s a very unsafe area and there are people that are walking around that are extremely questionable, but they Don’t want you to park in the parking lot that goes to their building. This is probably one of the most unsafe areas in the city of Columbus and there is no type of security. Not to mention there is no handicap access.

If I could give zero stars I would if you are looking for rental assistance RUN don’t even waste your time I submitted a application October it is now December and I yet to still know if I’ve been approved or denied don’t waste your time calling they dont care and don’t waste your time emailing they just don’t care by the time you get a answer you would be evicted from your place

Poor customer service, lack of empathy and compassion. And if you’re looking for help for any type of financial services you basically get the runaround. If you find yourself in need of rental assistance they basically don’t tell you that’s it’s a 45-60 day process. I don’t understand if people are reaching out for assistance, why would they make someone wait 45 to 60 days to get a approval or denial? The assistance is to avoid homelessness. Landlords are unwilling to hold off on filing eviction just based off of an preapproval letter. When calling in to follow up on your application, rarely do you encounter someone who actually is willing to help or look in to your application . You’re always told to call back . They never return calls, you basically continuously harass them. I applied once I was terminated from my job. It’s been over 45 days and I was told that I had to wait and if I get an eviction from the court to call back. Now that has occurred I’m still getting the runaround. I pray I never get put in the situation again. And I pray for all those who actually need help and our dealing with this same situation as well.

They have The Breathing Association as well in this building. I handed in the information required to get an air conditioner. I've called three times with one time the front desk telling me the womans name I worked with and she said " Yes that's her name the one you've been crying calling about her not returning your call." It has been two weeks since my appointment and I finally have a date and time to pick up an air conditioner! Only after requesting to speak to a supervisor. So no I will never come to this location again because they're lazy, rude, and unprofessional! I was just treated poorly!

I was prompted to attend an event at the Urban League. When I arrived the line was over 3-4 hours long. The staff were not ready for the number of people present. They tried to be accommodating, but chaos soon broke out. Because no system was in place, people were out of turn in line, and then after waiting 4-5 hours in the sun they came out and told us we would not get in most likely. Another woman came outside and was one of the rudest women in a public position I've ever seen. She told us she didn't know why we were still there and we should have been gone cause we weren't being seen.
It was the lack of humility for me. The reason people were present in the first place was of a sensitive nature, we had a need, the Columbus Urban League was offering hope , then decided mid way through they didn't want to show that we could be treated with dignity. I am not saying all of the employees were this way just enough to make it a bad experience for me and hundreds of others.
