I got my 80-hr. HAZWOPER training here and I've been coming back to for my refreshers the past 16 years. I enjoyed the 80-hr. course and I am very appreciative that I have been able to get my refreshers for free for so long however, the administration at this organization has gone downhill so I want to warn others that want to seek certification here.
My last refresher was due October 2019 so I scheduled my refresher with Giselle Chavez for November 2019. I contacted Giselle to confirm and she informed me that the refresher course was cancelled and apologized for not informing me. So, I registered for the next available refresher which was scheduled for February 2020. Giselle informed me that if I did not attend that course, my certification would expire and I would be forced to re-take the 40-hr. course. I contacted Giselle a month before the February course to confirm and she informed me that, once again, the course was cancelled and, once again, she didn't tell anyone that was registered. She said that since I didn't attend the refresher, my certification has expired. I asked to speak to Roger (Director) about this and she said she would have him call me but I never heard from him.
Just to relay this onto everyone else looking to renew their HAZWOPER certification, OSHA states that it is completely up to the discretion of the instructing organization to allow lenience regarding the time-frame with which a HAZWOPER certified person completes their refresher to maintain their certification. Apparently, CLCETC doesn't allow any flexibility, even when they cancel courses and don't communicate this event change to its registrants.
Thankfully, I found another organization (Rocky Mountain Education Center) that is much more flexible. It's not free like CLCETC, but at least they're good with communication and it is a reputable organization.
I greatly appreciated the training opportunities CLCETC provided me and it was a pleasure working with their trainers and students, and that's why I'm so disappointed that they turned into a poorly administrated organization. I would certainly encourage students to take advantage of their training, but I would also advise them to confirm multiple times beforehand because they might cancel the course and you won't know until you show up.
