I went in for eviction prevention help and got the run around. The walls are filthy, it smells of heavy urine, the staff are rude and lazy. Socializing while their supposed to be helping people is so unprofessional. Some people come in on the break of losing everything and they are so disregarding when you get to the counter. I left with absolutely no help and needing a hot shower because the smell of the place is so bad and it stuck to my clothes. I would not recommend any person, especially with a family, to go here. I would never go here to get help for me and my children ever again. It's just horrible.

I stayed at CASS last year. The conditions started out as nearly deplorable. It was still hot outside and there was no AC, no hot water for showers. When we complained to staff, nothing was done. Eventually after many complained to outside sources, we got heat (since it was cold by then) and hot water. I had a pet with me at some point but the pets were not allowed to socialize for fear of fights or other fraternization between pets. Then they complain that we aren’t controlling our pets well enough when dogs are barking in some cases kind of angrily. These people clearly don’t understand the concept of pets, especially dogs. They are meant to socialize and if they allowed dogs to socialize with each other, there wouldn’t be any fights and there would be more harmony with the pets. I was able to store a number of my things in their storage area but as I was getting close to getting out on my own they saw fit to toss my things out. If we weren’t already victimized enough, the staff saw fit to victimize us again and again because they could and if we all move out, which is the purpose for going to a shelter, they would all be out of jobs. So in a way, they get to victimize us for fun and keep their jobs while they’re at it. One person, though, helped me and my dog out immensely. Her name was Aimee and she worked in the Welcome Center, a place that was anything but welcoming. She helped me in the beginning and in the end with a bus ticket to get me and my dog out of Phoenix and to another city where there were better resources to help us. Thanks to her getting that bus ticket, a year later after my hell started at CASS, I have a full time job, a place of my own, and am fully established in my new city. People like Aimee who genuinely care and want to help people are rare gems in that field. Most of the staff there don’t care where someone ends up. They are so disillusioned from the notion that even the slightest bit of help, a smile, a “let me see what I can do”, is all a homeless person needs to keep going, that they stop caring. They become so hardened by the ones who are there to abuse the system that the ones who genuinely need help don’t get it. As such, residents at shelters like CASS end up getting victimized again and again but not by other residents like a lot of people think but by the staff themselves. Don’t get me wrong. They aren’t being attacked or raped or anything. Instead, they are robbed of their things and of their freedom and in some cases their privacy. Some residents who were there after being released from jail often commented that they would almost rather be in jail than in CASS because there’s no illusion that you have any freedom or privacy or property. CASS preaches dignity for the residents but it is rarely actually delivered. Residents of CASS eventually learn this and that people who live on the streets are actually the lucky ones. This sentimentality is actually kinda sad given that CASS is supposed to be helping to eliminate homelessness. People are actually preferring to be homeless than living in a homeless shelter. CASS people: Wake up! If you really want to help the homeless, then actually HELP them. I actually got more help from the people and organizations donating their food and services OUTSIDE of CASS then INSIDE of CASS or the so called Welcome Center.

I would love to share an experience if it was possible at all to get through to anyone. The phone system just sends you around in circles then hangs up on you. The voicemail is full so you can't leave a message and there isn't even a way to send a contact request online. I'm trying to find help for my sister and her 4 dogs who are homeless, currently living in her car that now is having trouble running. It's still 100+ degrees here and too hot for them out in this heat. I cannot take her in myself as I have 7 dogs here. She needs help and I am just trying to talk to anyone who can point us in the right direction. How do you actually help anyone when the phone is never answered?

This place is absolutely horrible from one thing to the next. They never have any funds but are told that they have been given federal money even told by certain staff members that they abuse funds and don't care. Staff makes up different rules everyday about how to live. The leads are supposed to find resources for us but they don't they just try to intimate us and bully us to the point where people are so scared to say something this place is a joke. The food at St Vincent is so horrible and it makes people sick all the time CASS puts on a facade for the cameras real good but everyone knows the real truth.

I do not understand how this place is even considered a safe place. Why would anyone recommend this place to a person escaping Domestic Violence? The people coming out have MRSA or STAPH, the crowd getting high surrounding the shelter, or the people that are being beaten up in front of this place is absolutely ridiculous. This is not safe...this is not where anyone will get a good night sleep, a place where anyone will continue sobriety and the fact that police drive right by while all this is going on is even more concerning. If AZ questions anything or is honestly concerned about homeless, this place needs to be immediate attention. It's out of control, needs funding and proper management.

I need additional information phone just ringing ringing is homeless shelter free of charge just looking get back home to SA tx came here to buckeye Arizona start fresh over here at my cousin house horrible can't go no were I just want get job work so I can go back home to SAn Antonio TX how process what do I need bring in to stay at shelter are you allowed to stay there y'all day just asking because I refuse to sleep on street or stay out in heat I just want go back to San Antonio TX to much bs over here
