Moved here Mar. 31st, this yr. & it has been a disastrous experience so far from the sales manager changing what she previously told me when I took the tour on Mar. 26th to extremely rude residents to staff NOT following thru on what was promised. Now I'm in Independent Living, do not need a caregiver at this point in my life & am 73!! I'm extremely disappointed & truly thought this would be a great place to live & enjoy my life. I moved from another Independent Living facility, within 2 miles from here, only there 11 mos. & it had serious issues with 7 residents leaving the same day I did!!! Now I will say I have a 1 bedroom paying $30 less than what I was paying for a Studio at the other place & a terrific selection of food choices when they don't run short as the food was horrible at the other place!!! However from having housekeeping breaking an item of mine + bathroom not properly cleaned to the above mentioned issues, so far I'm very sad & disappointed that Brookdale at Montrose is like this. As a retired teacher the residents that I referred to as rude are engaging in " adult bullying" & this needs to stop immediately & be addressed by mng! I've mentioned this to a few other residents who experienced the same treatment when they were new + I was even yelled at by 1 resident council board member in the Dining Hall in the outer room during lunch, so sad!!! Now I'm a larger person, ride a mobility scooter, Dr. ordered however I handle it extremely well & am quite cautious, but it seems to be a problem for these " Adult Bullies"! Never have a hit a person on it or do I hit furniture & I do have a van with a lift in the back. Please reach out to me, so that I can start enjoying my life here & stop crying so much!!! I do appreciate the feedback from someone who apparently is higher up than the Executive Director here & yes, he's been listening to my concerns, there was another situation today, Sat. Apr. 19th & I guess I didn't use the correct terminology when calling down to order a to go Meal! There needs to be a 15 pg. handbook given out when you move in so we know what's the proper terminology for everything + the correct way to do what you're suppose to do as I've been told multiple times by residents who've lived here longer!!! I never got in trouble my 12 yrs. of school, but here every time I turn around I'm doing something wrong, haven't even been ghee 3 wks.!!!!! So 😔!!!!! Hopefully other new residents have a pleasant experience, guess it's not in my world!!!!

I regularly post reviews of Brookdale. I strongly recommend if you are looking for a senior living community that encompasses compassionate, hands on, loving care, choose Brookdale! Mom has lived here for 3.5 years and is thriving in the community! Mom had an incident before Thanksgiving that required me to be there many days between holidays. We enjoyed a variety of Christmas activities/programs and it was clear to see how much Brookdale cares about their residents and families.

Aside from that, there are numerous activities to keep her engaged and she takes advantage of just about all of them - Fitness, Dining, Art classes, Bookmobile, Happy Hour, Guest musicians, Bingo, many friends, etc.! She can also have her "alone time" which she values as well! I do not worry about her safety - she has to check in every morning with front office staff and wears a wrist "watch" for safety issues if she needs them by simply pressing the button. I'm a hands on caregiver for her and am at Brookdale quite often. As with all senior living communities, it's important for family to be as involved as possible with their loved one. This is essential to keep tabs on things and to assist staff with any issues that may come up. Our issues have always been resolved in an expedited manner!

I would STRONGLY suggest families have a camera in their loved one's room. (and be sure to store the videos)

We took my mother to Brookdale Montrose in late August. We were told "now you can be her kids again instead of her caretaker." We spent more time watching her once she was there,
We met some very nice, supportive and caring staff. We were also met with several of the staff complaining of the staffing shortages that kept them from being able to do the job they were supposed to do. However, I felt my mother should not have had to suffer due to management not properly hiring or scheduling. (The patient/staff ratio was one of the questions we asked before placing my mom) She went to stay with a family member for two weeks because she was exposed to Covid. The medicine she was sent home with was not even hers!!! The director of the facility came on picked up the meds and brought the correct ones. They were supposed to clean her room -- my sister had to clean it and do her laundry. There were many times she was left in her room all day without a single staff member checking to be sure she was ok.
She fell one night getting up to go to restroom. We called to have someone go help her. (calling them is ridiculous as no one seems to want to answer the phone). When a nurse finally came in to help her, she picked her up off the floor and began rubbing her back!! She should have known not to do this. My mother had broken her back in that fall. (if it hadn't been for us having the camera in her room who knows how long she would have been on the floor in pain) She was in the hospital and then in
rehab. We now have her at home (we quit our job).

Her mental condition deteriorated quickly while there. Now that she is getting her meds correctly she seems so much better.

Then to have to pay for the 1-1/2 months she was in hospital/rehab was the icing on the cake!

My late 80's aged mother moved to Brookdale, Montrose, independent living, 16 months ago. Her experience has exceeded our expectations.

Everyone has been supportive, upbeat, and seeks out realistic opportunities to meed her needs on many levels. It takes a certain mindset and knowledge to deal with our elderly population and the staff have always displayed a high level of professional, knowledgeable, compassion.

Above all else, we and, she feel that Brookdale is a safe, secure place where she can enjoy day to day life to whatever extent she chooses.

The facility and grounds are exceptionally well maintained, particularly given the age of the buildings.

Meals are sometimes a challenge with high sodium content but with a little education and adjustment in menu choices it can be managed. Given the current obstacles for meal providers, they do rather well.

Overall, the value for what it costs monthly is high.

My mother lived here for a year and a half in the memory care unit. These were difficult times for my family but the staff here was amazingly supportive. They helped with decisions, listened to concerns and made my mom feel like family. The facility was beautiful, clean and had great food. They enjoyed many outings & recreational activities. Wonderful people!! Will be forever grateful!

She has a wonderful apartment with a small patio and a flower garden that I was able to plant some flowers in. She loves looking out at her flowers while she is in her apartment by opening her door

My 89 years old mom moved there almost 6 months ago. Prior to moving there she lived with me. She was unhappy due to lack of activities and social interactions. Since moving to Brookdale, she is much more active and energetic and her overall health has improved significantly. She loves her apartment, made friends, enjoy interacting with the staff members, and just enjoying life right now. The decision for my mom to move to Brookdale was definitely the right one!
