Visited the Black American West Museum on February 7th and had a wonderful experience. From the 1st Floor exhibit of Dr. Ford's practice to the 2nd Floor exhibit about the Buffalo Soldiers, everything was carefully curated, and I highly recommend making a visit.

Absolutely loved this museum! Learned so much history about the region and the country that I never knew. When I went they had exhibits about notable Black history in medicine, mining, ranching, homesteads, and military. The building itself has historical significance and the story of how they moved the building to its current location was incredible.
The museum hosts gave a great intro to the museum and subjects and were enjoyable to talk to. Is a gem of a museum and we are lucky to have it here in Denver! (I spent an hour here during my visit)

Amazing public history spot that truly captures the heart of old Denver, especially the amazing African Americans who helped start this city where I and many generations before me grew up

This was a great experience. Especially being from out of town. Made reservations same day. Very informative and intimate experience on black excellence in Colorado as well as the west. Highly recommend you reserve your space on the website for your desired time slot and Day. So much information throughout the house itself. Would recommend to anyone who has the time and wants to learn something new.

If you want to get a sense of the African-American experience in Denver as well as the wild west, this museum is a must-see. Do not underestimate its size, as it contains so many important national and local historical gems. Including a video about an all-black settlement in Colorado that is now a ghost town. As for the odd operating hours, that is mainly because it is volunteer run, but if you’re able to work it, into your schedule you will not regret it.

This place is a gem unveiling the “hidden figures” of the American West. Learn more about those who had a major impact on the gold rush, cattle ranching, rodeos, medicine, wartime, and innovation but don’t get the recognition they deserve. The staff is very knowledgable and engaging. Highly recommend!
