I was there. They housed me. They fed me. They clothed me. I believe that they are exceptional. I’m grateful for you all. This experience was memorable & I was there around 1988 with my mom. I thank you! Yes- nineteen eighty eight! So 35 years ago you all took us and cared for us. We will always remember what you did!

i guess they do good work for the people which is good that is why i donate to them, what i don't like is the staff, i ask them to please give me a point of contact with whom i can speak with on what is needed so i can see what i can get, i have emailed them 3 times and no response i have went there and they said they will get back with me and they never did even when i dropped off 18 pair of new shoes and i just received another order now sitting in my garage and i don't want to deprive the people living there of the donations that i have but i think i might have to find a new shelter to donate to. I just dont understand the org chart here and why it is so hard to be in contact, i am just trying to help.

I would guess most of the positive reviews here are from people who learned about Annunciation House from the media, donated money or goods, or volunteered for two weeks or less. Most everyone who sees it up close for longer sees many, many problems. I volunteered there for 17 months, considerably longer than most, almost quit many times in frustration, and finally did. Annunciation House treats its volunteers poorly, it takes every migrant Homeland Security delivers but rejects most migrants who come to its door on their own, it's horribly run (how many tubs of expired baby formula can one shelter have?), out-of-town volunteers who are very young are given too much responsibility (because Annunciation House can't keep community volunteers), and the two people in charge aren't nice, don't listen, and think they're always right. Sure, Annunciation House does good work, but it could be so much better. I've since started volunteering at a different shelter and it's superior in almost every way. Humanitarian organizations should treat people better than Annunciation House does.
