One of the best things to do when you are lucky enough to be in the area of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area is to take a tour of the American Eagle Foundation in Kodak, Tennessee just minutes away. You can get a fantastic tour from a dedicated group of individuals who are committed to educating and more importantly caring for a flock of wonderful birds that include the majestic American Bald Eagle, Hawks, Ravens, Owls, Falcons, and more. I personally enjoyed learning more about Vultures and have a new found respect for how they are responsible for keeping us safe from multiple diseases. If you are lucky enough to get Nancy as your tour guide you will feel the passion in her heart for saving these animals and you will see and help her and the rest of staff provide for their continued support. You will see the magnificent Challenger, a famous Bald Eagle that appears in stadiums and national events. They also have a great playground for kids, and if you look at their website you can see that they have a lot to see and do. I promise you won’t be disappointed and you will be helping save these wonderful creatures. Please say hello to my favorite bird, Poe the Raven, he even paints pictures.

This was a fantastic stop on our high school trip from VA to TN! The docents were excellent, they answered many questions and gave the students lots of time to visit with the animals, and we learned much as well as witnessing some animal enrichment - and a pair of wild bald eagles, to boot! Perfect walking and learning stop for a school group.

One of the best hidden gems of the Smoky Mountains! Are you looking for something fun to do that supports an amazing non-profit? Check out this place! They care for so many non-releasable birds of prey including bald eagles, vultures, hawks and more! They truly do so much amazing work, and you definitely need to check it out!
