My mom took me here when I was around 9-10, I'm 14 now. It was nice, but I was closed up and never wanted to open up. I'm not sure what happened but I stopped coming here and never got the help I needed. Either way, it's nice and they are very comforting. Almost got a blanket.

Amazing people, one in particular. Gods sent Angel to me. Gorgeous lady in and out. They do care I mean in every place you have to be on top of things of course I mean it’s your life in your the one interested so of course you have to be on top of it and call them. They have a lot of things going on as many of us. But they are amazing with restraining orders when it comes to protect yourself and your children. Amen to this organization.

Please rethink coming here for counseling or anything. We set up an appointment for my granddaughter for an intake appointment (3/16/23) only to be told that everyone was gone at some sort of training... wth? We received one phone call on Monday and I called Raquel back to find out why she was calling, I was not able to speak with her and left a message asking her to call myself or my husband back if she had any questions. We never heard anything back so we went off to the appointment only to be told when we arrived that no one was there and that we would have to come back. No explanation NOTHING! Their receptionist was completely unhelpful and couldn't give me any answers and kept telling me there was nothing she could do. That she was JUST a receptionist. My son took time off for this I changed my schedule to be here and these twits couldn't be bothered to call and reschedule? I'm not sorry that I was obnoxious to the receptionist. My granddaughter was looking forward to finally getting therapy for the abuse she suffered that it was heart breaking to see the disappointment on her face. A simple phone call to one of the THREE numbers these people had on file or even an e mail could have avoided everything that happened today. But no their so called training was more important. I doubt there is enough training that could help these people. Whatever amount of money these people are making they are way over paid.

Seeing the recent 1 star reviews is concerning. I attended a 16 week group course for domestic violence victims in 2010 and it changed my life. I met my exhusband at the age of 19 after experiencing a traumatic event while in college. I knew throughout the relationship that I needed out, but it took 10 years and an act of God to get me out. Then, with the help of the AAFV, I was able to better recognize red flags, find value in myself, and be a better, stronger parent. It has been almost 14 years now, I’ve been remarried in a healthy relationship for 9 years, and my babies are grown and doing exceptionally well. I am forever grateful to the AAFV for their support at the most difficult time of my life.

Edit to address the recent (and presumptive) response to my six-month old review: First and foremost, the singular purpose of my review was to warn potential volunteers of Carmen’s behavior toward those researching the Alliance as an option for volunteerism. I feel I’ve done that. Therefore, I do not feel the need to address this matter again or to send complaint emails. However, given your statements, I also feel the need to clarify: being “denied” as a volunteer is not applicable to me, since I withdrew my offer to volunteer within days of the submittal of my application (i.e. it “ended” on my own volition, before a “decision” of any kind was rendered). I chose to do so given Carmen’s dismissive and unbelievably rude demeanor both toward my colleagues that she contacted and myself. In other words, my review is neither beget from “retaliation” for being “denied” (since that didn’t happen), nor is it to question the policies and procedures that you employ. I find it interesting, convenient, and face-saving that those assumptions are the crux of your response. My comments were focused on the basic lack of respect that Carmen exhibited and continues to exhibit toward prospective volunteers (I am not alone in my assessment of her behavior). Regardless, I wish your cause the best of luck. I also hope that prospective volunteer feedback is taken seriously in the future and, concomitantly, that Carmen’s suitability as your liaison is re-evaluated.

Original review: I cannot speak to the services rendered to victims and/or their families by the Alliance, but, it is a horrible place to volunteer; the volunteer coordinator, Carmen Lorenzo Baker, is unbelievably rude and unappreciative.

It’s truly saddening that a such a noble cause treats potential unpaid assistance so poorly. I recommend that anyone looking to better the community via volunteerism look elsewhere or that the Alliance hires a better liaison to their organization.

I was in the battered womens shelter there in 1999 and the staff saved my life. I will never forget Norma, Sarita and Jan. My life is great and prosperous now and I owe the start of my recovery to them and other staff members.
Thank you All

The worst place to get your life back together. They pray to the devil, fight the weak, brag about colorist fights, gossip comes first hygiene second, I rather call the streets for help.

This place has helped me get through some tough things I have gone through in my life. Their employees are great and I love how they put on the free self defense classes.
This place really helps the community out.
