I am a volunteer at HSPC and they are an excellent organization. They are NO-KILL shelter with on-site vet and they treat all the animals as their own pets. Amazing staff & volunteers - and the pets are so great!!! They get socialized, a bit of training & grooming, & they are all 100% good dogs & cats who are just waiting to go home ? Adopting a shelter pet is one of the greatest decisions you can make - the dogs are every bit as good if not better than pure breeds with great potential & a deep gratitude and love for their human that saves them. Definitely recommend adopting or volunteering with HSPC!!

Debbie, this is Kirk Heffelfinger, we adopted “Karen”, she’s Kate now, Debi did an amazing job fostering Kate, everyday we see something new, she plays with toys, housebroken, loves walks , she’s a true love bug, she still has times where she is scared but gets over it quick, she has brought us so much joy , I can’t thank you enough we love her so much and she loves us,

I am the former volunteer coordinator of HSPC that ultimately left because I spoke up for myself as well as the gross mistreatment of animals at this shelter. Please volunteer, donate, or provide assistance to other shelters in Little Rock. They call themselves “no kill” but this couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’ve personally witnessed both dogs and cats get euthanized with no good explanation. Pit bulls are deceptively labeled “lab mixs” with the intent to deceive adopters. The lack of respect for sponsors and people who volunteer their time is unbelievable. This animal racketeering money scheme isn’t a shelter. It is a ploy to collect money off of the good will of people and used to line the pockets of executives. I normally wouldn’t speak up but the animals suffer as a result and my heart absolutely breaks for them. Just visit the shelter and you’ll be overwhelmed by bad smells and the uncleanliness of the facility. Dogs here suffer and that is the saddest part in all of this.

I have called countless times after my husband was attacked by a dog. They didn’t come out for days. Today the dog is loose and AGAIN no help. I called another number bc they were closed-no help. The neighbors have called as well. Not understanding after a person is bit, why are they not responding?

So, so kind and helpful. Had to surrender three little stray kittens we found abandoned by their mom (had to be 4-5 weeks old). We could not take care of them because we read they need to be fed so frequently at that age and we both work. Staff/volunteers were kind and understanding. So thankful to Humane Society of Pulaski County for taking them in. Glad to know that they will taken care of and re-homed.

My recent visit to Pulaski County Humane Society left me deeply disappointed and frustrated with the way my family and I were treated during our attempt to adopt a cat. With my two young daughters, aged 4 and 7, eagerly anticipating the addition of a new furry friend to our family, we entered the shelter full of excitement.

However, our experience quickly turned sour when the staff member assigned to assist us seemed more focused on discouraging us from adopting any of the cats we showed interest in. Despite our clear desire to adopt, we were repeatedly told that adopting a kitten would be a better choice than considering the older cats available for adoption. This attitude not only disregarded our preferences but also left my daughters feeling disheartened and confused.

Furthermore, when one particular cat showed genuine interest in interacting with my daughter, the staff member inexplicably prevented her from engaging with the cat, despite the obvious connection between them. It was incredibly frustrating to witness this unnecessary obstruction of a potentially meaningful bond between my daughter and the cat.

Overall, our experience at Pulaski County Humane Society was deeply disappointing and disheartening. Instead of feeling welcomed and supported in our efforts to adopt, we left feeling discouraged and disrespected. I sincerely hope that the shelter reevaluates its approach to assisting potential adopters and ensures that all visitors are treated with the respect and consideration they deserve.
