When searching for our daughter’s first preschool, we luckily came across the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and saw they offered a preschool program for military kids. We did our due diligence as parents and scoured the website to check out the program, read many reviews and looked at their social media sites to learn as much as we could. From the beginning, we knew this was an amazing school and immediately reached out to enroll our daughter. Due to high demand, we were put on a waitlist. So, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. Before we knew it, we got that call asking if we were still interested in the program, toured the school and were blown away by the staff, location and additional programs the school offers.

Upon enrollment, we learned we were eligible for a tuition scholarship which allows us to afford this high level of education. The ASYMCA is more than just the education, which we do prioritize. They have so many additional programs to help military families such as the Patriots Pantry, Operation Little Learners, Patriots Ball, etc. Not all programs are just tailored towards families with children, but each is respective to those who have served and/or their families.

Our daughter had never been to any form of school or daycare before attending the ASYMCA. She has made strong relationships with her classmates and teachers, and we send her to school each day knowing she is properly taught, watched over and cared for. We jump at the opportunities the school offers and try to give just as much back as we can. We are so grateful for the ASYMCA and could not have imagined a better first school for our daughter. Our only regret is that we did not live in the area earlier so she could have attended last year as well. If you are seeking an exceptional school geared towards military families who understand exactly what it means to serve, the ASYMCA is the greatest that I could recommend. We cannot thank the teachers and staff enough for the experiences we have had with them this past year.

My daughter has done 2 sessions of the operation little learners and it has been absolutely amazing! She loves doing circle time and all of the crafts! The field trips are an added bonus that we both enjoy. We have been able to connect with other families and she’s made so many new friends! I can’t say enough good things about the program!

Being a single active duty mother of 3, this place was a god send. Relocating all the way from Idaho, along with all the other struggles our family was going through at the time, made for a real challenge for the kids. But the teachers here have astounding patience with my children as they work through this big change. Their Summer Program was such a great way to kick off their time here in VA, getting to see & do all the fun things the area has to offer with their field trips & activities. My older 2 enjoyed their summer making new friends & getting to do lots of engaging things. It really made getting comfortable & settled in much easier for them. Now that the school year has started, all 3 of them are going there. My older 2 are in their Before-After School Care Program & my youngest is in their Pre-K Program. My youngest loves getting to go to school & adores her teachers. She is always so excited to tell me what she's learned at the end of the day & show me the projects she's made in class. Spending the time away from them during the day has been much easier for me knowing they are there. My oldest even gets upset when I pick them up "too early". They truly treasure their time there. I am so thankful for this place & all they have done for us.

Operation Hero is an incredible program! My son was thrilled to be a part of it and looks forward to every session. My daughter actually went through the program five years ago, and it’s been amazing to see them both share how much it has empowered them.

I’m so grateful for everything the ASYMCA does for military families—thank you!

My daughter’s and I are newer to the area and two this organization. I was extremely nervous at first because there was a lot of change in transition at one time happening in our lives. I want to personally say thank you from my family to the Directors/Coordinators. Ms. Torrey and Mr. Doss did an amazing job with the Operation Hero program! I know that they truly care for the families in which they serve! I felt comfortable leaving my daughters in their care and loved that when I had to pick them up they were never ready to leave. Ms.Torrey and Mr. Doss Don’t realize the tremendous impact that they have had on our lives and I hope that they will both continue to be around for a long time. The kids came home Excited about what they had learned, the friends that they interacted with, and the support that they received during their time in the program. We are so lucky to have had such an amazing experience and I look forward to signing my daughters up again!
I could go on and on and on about how professional they were and about how much my daughters loved everything about the program. Again, thank you for providing this program while supporting our family get through a very difficult transition.

Both of my daughters have completed this course! It was a AMAZING experience! They both have a better understanding of our family bond with me being in the military. Respect for themselves, their family, and most of all themselves. It has been a 5 star experience. And I would recommend it for all ages. My daughters made new friends and had a great time.

I am incredibly thankful to be a part of the MDG program that allows my child to attend such an amazing child care center. As a parent, knowing that she is in a nurturing and secure environment brings me immense peace of mind. This opportunity means my daughter can learn, grow, and socialize in a space that prioritizes her well-being, while I’m able to focus on work and other responsibilities with confidence and relief.

This grant has truly lifted a burden from our family and opened a door to new possibilities. The center's caring staff, enriching activities, and warm atmosphere have already made such a positive impact on my child’s development and happiness. I’m deeply grateful for the support that has made this experience possible, and I recognize how valuable it is to have access to such high-quality care at such an affordable rate. It’s a gift that supports not just my child’s present, but her future as well.

My son has been in their Operation Hero program after school. It was a great way for him to meet other military kids at the school since we are new to the school. All the teachers and people helping were very nice. It was super convenient since the program was after school at his school! Communication was great also.

We have absolutely loved the Operation Little Learners program since PCS’ing to Hampton Roads! I first found out about the program through our monthly newsletter when we lived in Liberty Military Housing and now I tell everyone. It helped us connect with other families and gave me the nudge to step out of my comfort zone and start exploring our new community - we’ve had the chance to visit some awesome local places with the monthly tickets giveaways. The staff is amazing, always so welcoming and friendly, and they go above and beyond organizing and coordinating various resources for military families!
