I love this place. I originally found out about Ezra when I was in the neighborhood and found out Ezra was hosting a free medical fair. A month later, I moved in the neighborhood and found out more services that Ezra has. They have free financial one time emergency assistance. You have to have an income but this is a really great resource. They also have art therapy, medical groups, and a Jewish support group. They have a food pantry and a cafe which is like a food kitchen but a lot nicer and more decent quality food. They also have a food pantry you can use every Wednesday. Not all of the clients are Jewish, but on Fridays, they have dinners just for Jewish clients. On Jewish High Holidays, they provide food to Jewish clients. They also have special events sometimes. This place helped me when I needed a place that was more supportive to Jewish individuals. I recommend them.

Ezra is a great place for people to get help and resources. The staff there are professional, forth coming and a very nice group of people. If you have something bad to say you're probably hard to please anyways! God bless.

This place advertises on helping people...but they really operate on stealing people's identity. I should know because they stole mine.

Like many people I came across some difficult times in my life with an unexpected medical condition that forced me to stop working. I had the every day commitments of rent, food, bills, and all else to make a household run. Help from my family and friends stretched only so far, so I turned to one of the JUF contacts for assistance. JUF (Jewish United Fund) has been around for a long time. Being Jewish myself it seemed like the right route to go.

Ezra was close to where I live, which looked like a place to begin receiving some help. I first asked for assistance in paying my rent, and they mentioned I have to have some type of income coming in first to get a one time financial help from Ezra. I informed them that my medical condition prevents me from working at all. Hello, that's how I got into my desperate financial situation. They didn't care about that, but mentioned I can be a part of their Uptown Café meal program and food pantry instead. So basically Ezra would only be helping me with food to eat, just food, that's all.

Why then did they ask me for my social security card...not just the number only...but the real physical card and my driver's license...take them both from me...make a copy of them together on paper...and have me sign to it. Plus ask me what my credit score is. This is all needed just to get free food from the greater Chicago food depository? They don't pay for that food. It is given to Ezra free from the government. Plus none of that food is Kosher at all. Isn't this a Jewish organization? They advertise Kosher but don't deliver it.

Of course all my personal identifying information wasn't need so I can have access to food donations. It was taken from me so they can steal my identity, which began a few days later after signing up with them. I have a close friend that is a private investigator who found the trace of my stolen identity leading to Ezra's computer system.

The crooks opened up two credit cards in my name, a Citibank and a Capital One. The letters in the mail and the phone calls started to flood my way also from these credit card companies. It will take years to clear up the mess Ezra left in my good name.

The nerve of this non-profit operating under the Jewish religion to hurt and destroy people's lives rather than help. They need to be called out and investigated by the public.

I am leaving this feedback as a warning for others not to turn to Ezra for any help what so ever. You will regret it as I have found out. If there was such a rating as zero stars or negative stars I would rate Ezra in that field. Too bad one star is as low as I can put them.

Shame on you Mark, Damian, Molly, Abby, Joelle, and everyone else on staff at Ezra for running such a dirty, sneaky, and conniving business advertised as helping the poor, the sick, the homeless, and the needy.

P.S.
The word "Ezra" is literally the Hebrew word for "Help," but according to the Ezra Multi-Service Center the word "Ezra" translates into something different for them..."Steal."

I'm new been there since late January 25 ' . Since I've been there observed special treatment to already established persons . They are consulted and cared for . By people who never taken care of me only told me to not talk or to be seated close to someone when talking . No matter where I am throwing and piping in their rules or opinions not any that are established in intake packet . Their big ears listening to every word I'm saying . Giving me upsetting rules of their own. Ok I deserve the same respect and non discrimination that they give all other mental or special people . I jewish ancestry, they treat their own better than I. I will never step foot in there again . Food pantry yuck . Cafe barely a Cafe I'm way better cook and baker sorry . I'd rather starve than ever go their classes are OK. I can do better with you tube . I will do my activities with them more fun less crap Givin to me . Thanks for nothing .Ezra. Rachel, Sara not my people , on power trip in their own mind . Goodluck with that ."
