The STLC is such an amazing organization!! The U.S. Census lists a literacy rate in South Texas at close to 50%. This means almost half the people in our communities lack reading and writing skills in the English language. Having grown up in south Mcallen, I now reflect back on the people and culture I was raised in, and can now greatly appreciate the services the STLC provides to help boost literacy rates in South Texas, extending from Laredo to Brownsvile.
