This unprofessional, scamming, money stealing organization is taking advantage of people of all ages that need assistance to get to the next level. My 25 year old son with learning disabilities came up here to register and was charged $21 for an English book, and he already passed the English portion of his GED. After being there for 2 hrs taking the pretest, he was told he can't get the $21 back except in a check to be mailed. When offered to swap it for another subject the director Ashley or Renett whoever she is said oh that's gonna cost you more.. @grants.gov and The Texas Secretary of State needs to audit this non profit. They're making bad decisions and do not care at all about helping people!

It’s been 5 days since I gave GED placement test. Scores usually takes 48 hours and these people have not gotten back with me yet with the results. I had to call 3 times today for some one to get back with me for my results, the receptionist promised me some one will get back soon and it’s now end of the day no one has contacted me nor I received any email from them. This is very unprofessional I am trying to get to GED classes asap so I don’t miss out any more classes but they are taking too long to get back with me. Not happy at all. I might change my mind taking any further GED classes there. They are very careless and it seems like they don’t care about their students. They all are getting paid whether they do the work properly or not so why would they work harder for anyone. Government is paying them regardless. They should be audited!

The receptionist and directors run a bad business and steal from the poor. We were told to pay $200 to take classes because we could not show a pay check. we agreed because knowing English was important to my mother. But we asked for a particular class and they agreed to refund the money if class could not be found. after we paid they could not find a class and now also will not refund. we have not taken even one class. stealing from poor old people! these people shd be proud! - Volunteers - Stay away from this place. you may not be helping! At least know their practices before offering your help.
Tutors are great. management is poor!

Several years ago, I had English classes at this center. And a tutor ( a lady in her 60-s, short dark curly hair, glasses) had bullied me. However,
I've been so much confused and felt vulnerable, that even didn't complain to the administration. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name. So guys,
I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

I am an international student living in some apartment of Houston with my wife and a child.

We heard that your 'council' is offering 'free' English courses and went to 12530 Emily court on 25 January of 2017 at around 14.30 to enroll my wife for 'free' courses.

The lady behind the counter said that i should declare proof of income to be eligible for 30$ fee, otherwise i should pay 200$ for some exam. (I didn't know that the exam may as expensive as TOEFL). I explained her that as an international student i have no income and can not work in US. She asked me where do i live and and how do i pay my rent ? I was shocked because i didn't know that you are offering discount only for homeless.

So I felt responsibility to explain that being able to rent an apartment does not show your income, because you may have a lot of money for living but have no income at all because you saved some money.

Anyway we gave up on 'free' course opportunities with discount for homeless and will try to find a course where people does not ask for proof of income and does care how do i pay my rent. Excuse my 'unliteracy' just in case.

I love volunteering for this organization. I wish I had more time. If you have the time, it's worth the effort. Plus the staff makes it so easy to train and get started.
