An unexpected delight! We love small city museums, but many are very basic and tiny. This museum is amazing! Rich in detail and surprisingly large. Multiple buildings, all well-labelled, immaculate and fascinating. A telephone museum for the geeks (of which I'm one), military displays, a house, two cabins, a barn and a jail including an indoor hanging spot. Very well done and highly recommended!

Loved this little piece of history and the staff was fantastic! Our guided tour was packed full of informative and interesting information, history and artifacts.
My 7 year old daughter was amazing with how people use to live after seeing the on-site Homes, Jail and church.
My favorite part was the room with all the phones from yesterday year. I finally realized how old I am after seeing my first cell phone in a museum.

When people asked what was in Fairfield, I originally told them “nothing. Absolutely nothing.” But then this museum has changed my mind! My mom and I stumbled on the museum because it was in such a cute building. They have so many fun artifacts and stories that we spent a good 2 hours there looking at everything and talking to Patty. My favorite things: this is the home of the original GI Joe, they have an antique, working fire truck, they have an old cabin with era artifacts, they had a bedazzled Cadillac, antique phone room, and they had some funny stories about some of their citizens! I would definitely recommend coming here, especially if just passing through along 45. It’s a nice stop.

This museum is a real hidden gem. The staff there are super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I did not have high expectations when we decided to go to this small county museum, but hey were blown out of the water! They really show you what life was like in Freestone County, and similar areas, from the 1800's to now. They do this not with large walls of text, but by setting up their historical collection of buildings so you can see what it would have been like for the people of that time. If you find yourself in or near Fairfield and have any interest in history this museum is a must see!

Such a cool little museum! We went while camping at Fairfield Lake State Park, and very much enjoyed it.

There isn't a ton of information to read about the pieces, but the curator is very friendly and gave a private tour, telling us all about everything there!

The Curator here Ms. Patty is awesome, and knows a ton about the buildings and the history behind them. For $5 you can’t beat it! Theres too much to talk about in one review, but it’s one of those little museums that you can spend hours just going through!
