I came here asking for help. Beforehand, I was never told I had to leave my infant in a room all by herself. It was only after I came in person I was told this because "she could feel the abuse being recounted." Children's psychology doesn't say that, btw. Then I was told I could leave her with one of their staff? A complete stranger, people who have exp trauma do not trust strangers with their children. I feel like a battered women's center would know that? It gives children anxiety to be separated from their parents. Also, I had a meeting with one of their in house attorney's. My meeting was rescheduled due to the lawyers busy schedule, which I understood and set a different time apart from my schedule. Then they missed my meeting, no update, no email. Nothing. They also did not answer my calls or emails. Guess my time is not as important as theirs. They made me feel like I didn't matter, like they do not care about the kids. Do not come here. They do not care to help you. They are government funded and only care to get their financial portion.
There was also a woman sitting in the lobby crying because she said they wouldn't help her because she has 2 sons and they cant stay with her? These are children, who like their mom has faced abuse. How are you turning them away?

They don't offer any help. Every time I call them it's the same answer they are full and don't call them. Scum company that goes to TV for donations but never help!!!

First call the lady answered and hung up in my face 2 times and won't answer back . I read the reviews before calling but I like to experience people for myself. This is the rudest I have ever been treated in my life

Genesis Women's Outreach is good to me. I only use their counseling services, which included EMDR, parenting classes, group classes, and more recently, talk therapy. With my current counselor's guidance, my PCL-5 score went from 51 to 23 in about a year. I've poured many years, so much money, and hard work into healing trauma that when I was told about my most recent PCL-5 score, I cried tears of joy. I also framed the sticky not my counselor gave me listing my PCL-5 scores by date. Domestic violence survivors get so much judgment, which only adds to the intense shame that their abusers have placed onto them. For me, that used to be so hard. In fact, I almost took my life to escape the abuse I experienced, for not being believed, and the judgment I received for my trauma reactions. But Genesis believes me. They have helped me understand the dynamics I have experienced. Their belief didn't help me in court. But what it has done is help me to feel okay and heard and not so alone. I am grateful to Genesis and everyone who has chosen to support Genesis in their mission. I will say that the toiletries that people donate are amazing!!! Many moments when my account has been in the negative but I had feminine care products, toothpaste, and deodorant that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. Y'all can donate toilet paper too if you'd like!

My mother stayed here with me when we were young. The protection they provided during such a critical time was pivotal in allowing my mom to provide me with the resources I needed to live a good life. I am forever thankful to the services provided by this shelter.

I was a client in 1993 after I escaped an abusive marriage with my daughter. Everyone was so helpful in helping me get counseling, divorce, protective order, daycare, and an apartment to help me get on my feet. I'd most likely would have been killed had Genesis not been there!!

30 years later, I still donate clothes & household items and shop in their thrift stores to help the other women.
