Spent the day thrift shopping in South Austin and came across The Austin Harmony Project. The 2 buildings were full of people with special needs singing and dancing - it was really joyful! Not a typical store or a ton of shopping finds - but they did have art made by their clients. Money well spent.

So there USED TO BE a thrift store here, but they got so many kids for their developmental disabilities program that they no longer have room for the thrift store. So if you come looking for a thrift store, you'll not find it here. But 5 stars for what they are, which is a great place for kids with disabilities to learn and interact.

While driving to the Manchaca Library, I noticed a small neon green sign that said "25 cent sale this way" with an arrow pointing at this small quaint thrift store. As I walked in I noticed bins separated by size all in a row in the middle of the room. I was greeted by a super smiley volunteer that welcomed me and explained that everything in the bins was 25 cents. Heck yeah! You don't have to tell me twice. I ended up walking away with about $8 worth of clothing that ranges from dresses to even a leather oversized jacket! The volunteer explained to me that the Austin Harmony Project is a non-profit that enriches lives of adult with developmental disabilities. Knowing this made me walk to the other side of the shop and get the 2-3 items I doubted I needed. Come to this thrift store and you will be surprised at the quality of the donations received as well as contribute to a local community that is changing lives one day at a time.

The store is small, and full of neat things. Something for everyone. Hidden in the back, once you visit you will not forget where it's at.
