I am 53 years old and have had a strong career for most of my life. Unfortunately, I was laid off in October 2024 and have been using my savings to stay afloat, covering rent, utilities, insurance, and caring for my pets. When I realized I would be short on rent for March, I was encouraged to seek assistance from this charity, expecting a straightforward and supportive process. Instead, I had one of the most humiliating experiences of my life.

Rather than receiving compassion, I was essentially told that because I had earned a decent living in the past, I shouldn’t need help now. No consideration was given to the fact that I have faced cancer, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, and undergone a quadruple bypass and chest reconstruction in the last five years—medical hardships that have drained my savings, including real estate investments.

To even be considered for aid, I was forced to expose my bank account for scrutiny, having every expense judged line by line. My spending consisted solely of food—primarily for my pets and myself, surviving on peanut butter, jelly sandwiches, and ramen for over a month. While I was given food from the food bank, I left feeling degraded rather than helped.

I’ve always believed in giving back, even during my own struggles. I have donated to others in need, even when I could barely afford to eat myself. So to be treated as if I were undeserving of assistance was deeply disheartening. I never expected to feel so judged at a place that claims to help those in need.

I truly hope that others have a better experience than I did, and I sincerely wish the best for anyone going through similar struggles. No one should be made to feel unworthy for simply needing a little help during a difficult time.

ICM is an incredible organization. The staff is kind and genuine. They make you feel comfortable and offer reassurance during times when you really need it They go above and beyond to ensure they are doing everything they can to help people, and I cannot express how grateful I am to them for assisting me during difficult times. Thank you ICM for everything.

I don't understand how the volunteers here are rude. This is a non-profit organization and if you're going to be a volunteer just be nice to people in need. If not then don't be a volunteer. Specifically the older lady(in food pantry) with short light brown hair and eye glasses should be nicer to people seeking assistance. Very disappointing.

ICM is like the name states… Caring. In times of post Covid recovery, rising cost of living , increasing rents, never ending heat waves or freezes that one only wishes ICM had the resources to truly make a difference community wide. However as any non profit they do with that they have and they do a fine job at doing so. Thank you for all your help and support for my family in luring my
4 legged furry life partner

My husband lost his job and we contacted them twice by phone and once by email to set up an appointment for assistance and we never received a response back. That was around the beginning of July and we have two children - and only wanted assistance in having utilities paid. So we didn’t have to choose between that and getting groceries to feed our children. I am disappointed.
