I’ve taught short workshops in Geo technology here several times… The last time I was here in May 2022 we had a geographic information systems conference and it was in their top-notch new conference center.

Online learning is impersonal, isolating, poor quality, and inherently less valuable than collaborative classrooms. If you attend CMC, this experience will be inevitable.

Before choosing this college for a degree in Sustainability, I was ensured by an advisor that online classes I would be required to take were limited. That is untrue. If I want to graduate from CMC, I will be required to complete nearly my entire senior year online, about three times as many credits as I was lead to believe. I moved across the state to avoid this situation, yet it is apparently required. Now that I have so many upper division credits that it doesn't make sense to transfer to a college that values quality learning experiences, it would be a waste to leave. I feel like I've been tricked.

The two years that I spent mostly in-person were excellent. The faculty is caring, competent, innovative, and personable. I will miss them a lot when I'm forced to sit in a box in front of a screen all day everyday for eight months. If you are pursuing outdoor education, I cannot recommend CMC enough. If you are pursuing a bachelor's degree, I would recommend choosing a school that either values the quality of your learning experience, or at least trains their faculty in teaching online if that's your preferred modality

TLDR: Colorado Mountain College does not offer enough place-based learning opportunities to align with their alleged values or the way they market their programs. The faculty who are holding onto their in-person classes are phenomenal, but overlooked.

CMC has been a dream come true! The low cost of tuition and family like faculty are both reasons why I graduated with my degree! The school is growing quickly and has an immense amount of online resources. The staff is all around amazing! The class sizes are small and range from culinary arts to yoga to Botany to Rafting down the Colorado River! Would Highly recommend for anyone who is trying to adventure with a side of outstanding education!

Thank You CMC!

The 2 year Engineering program is outstanding. The opportunities available to students at CMC are endless. Div I ski team is a great opportunity to get plenty of on-snow time to further your ski career without breaking the bank at a 4 year school.

I am on the home stretch of my second and final year at CMC - Steamboat Springs (AAS - Resort Management). It has been over 40 years since I finished high school; I had decided then not to go to college. When I made a decision in 2013 to give it a try at CMC Steamboat, I had no idea what to expect. The counselors and office staff were amazing and gave me all the help and assurance I needed to get started. My first year went so well, my wife, Patsy, joined the CMC experience with me and enrolled as well; we are now "college sweethearts"... (married almost 9 years).

The instructors have been supportive, classes challenging, and it has been more than I expected. I definitely made the right decision to come to CMC. We are looking forward to putting our education into action when we graduate later this year.

I've been taking continuing education classes at CMC Steamboat: art and yoga. Both are fantastic. The new building has an amazing view of the ski mountain, the faculty is very high calibre and we are so lucky to have CMC in our community.

CMC Alpine has helped me to realize my dreams. I am a boomer and am creating my second act. The Culinary Program and the Hotel/Resort programs are just what I needed to get my new career off to a great start. All of the staff at CMC is so wonderful and have been more than willing to accommodate my physical disabilities to make sure that I am able to finish the programs and get the most out of the classes. This has been a great place to be in this time in my life and I couldn't be more satisfied with CMC! It is affordable, friendly and in the most beautiful city in the country.

If you’re a 18-20(something) the dorms might work out awesome for you. The RAs will only bust you if you’re being irritating to them and the residents, so just be quiet and be respectful. 1st floor is usually quiet, second floor is mixed, and third floor is loud.

The classes are great especially if it’s early in the morning and you can stare out the window at beautiful Werner. The professors are also very understanding, so be authentic and just communicate with them. They’re only there to help you.

Consider the 300 flex bucks meal plan, (the café will save your life), and breakfast and late nights hit different.

Never miss the events either, it would be worth your time and you will make plenty of friends. (Usually Hot Springs night is fair game).

Enjoy your time, and try to balance your academics with skiing. 2 years can pass very fast, and maybe even consider doing 4 years. It’s worth your time! Maybe even take an outdoor ed class.

This campus is perfect especially for untraditional learners. Get that bread qween.
